The road to several Western Massachusetts championships will go through Franklin County.

The PVIAC released seeds and brackets on Thursday for next week’s sectional tournaments, and several area high school programs are penciled in as No. 1 seeds.

Here’s a breakdown of area schools by sport:

Softball

Franklin County schools are No. 1 seeds in two of the four brackets, as Greenfield (Class C) and Turners Falls (Class D) are both atop their respective fields.

In Class C, the Green Wave easily grabbed the top seed, nearly doubling the power ranking of No. 2 seed Mount Greylock. Greenfield will host No. 8 Westfield Tech in the quarterfinal round on Monday at 6 p.m. at Vets Field.

Franklin Tech is the No. 3 seed in the Class C field, and the Eagles will host No. 6 Frontier in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The other local team in that bracket is No. 5 Athol, which will travel to No. 4 Taconic either Monday or Tuesday.

Semifinals are set for Wednesday or Thursday, while championship games in softball are tentatively set for May 31 or June 1 at Westfield State University.

In Class D, Turners Falls earned the No. 1 seed ahead of second-seeded Hoosac Valley. The Thunder will host No. 8 Gateway in a quarterfinal matchup Monday night at 7 p.m. If they win, they would host either No. 4 Hopkins Academy or No. 5 Lee in the semifinals.

Baseball

Five area schools qualified for the PVIAC baseball tournaments, led by a pair of No. 2 seeds.

In Class C, second-seeded Frontier will host No. 7 Westfield Tech in the quarterfinal round on Monday at 4 p.m.

No. 3 Greenfield will host No. 6 Lenox on Monday at 6 p.m., while No. 8 Franklin Tech also plays Monday when it travels to top-seeded Mount Greylock at 4:30 p.m.

The two local teams in the Class D field will lock horns on Monday night, as No. 2 Pioneer welcomes No. 7 Turners Falls to Northfield for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal. The two teams just played Wednesday, with Pioneer earning a 6-3 win.

Tennis

On the boys side, No. 2 Frontier will host a Class C semifinal on Monday when it entertains No. 3 Lee at 4 p.m. in South Deerfield. The winner plays either No. 1 PVCICS or No. 4 St. Mary’s in the title match.

The Greenfield girls tennis team is the No. 4 seed in Class C and will travel to No. 1 Lee.

Boys volleyball

Both local boys volleyball programs will face off in the Class C semifinals on Monday night, as No. 4 Athol heads to Goodnow Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. match against top-seeded Frontier. The winner will play either No. 2 Southwick or No. 3 Ware in the championship match.
