After months of dual meets and training, the Athol, Franklin Tech, Frontier, Mahar and Mohawk Trail wrestling teams will be competing against the best of the best on Saturday.
The Eagles, Redhawks and Warriors are traveling to Mount Greylock Regional School in Williamstown to compete in the MIAA Div. 3 West championship meet while the Bears and Senators will be heading east to Wayland High School to wrestle in the MIAA Div. 3 Central meet.
Both tournaments are scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m.
Last year, Frontier’s Alex Schreiber was the lone local to capture a sectional title, though many are expected to be in the mix Saturday.
Over in Williamstown, Franklin Tech’s Carsten Couture enters the day as the top seed at 120 pounds. Fellow Eagle Landon Purington is the top seed at 132 while Mohawk Trail’s Logan Moore is the top seed at 157.
With the top four placers in each weight class advancing to the MIAA Div. 3 state tournament (Feb. 21-22 at Foxborough High School), expect many other locals to be in the mix to seal their spots.
