Zach Coburn scored a personal best in the 800-meter run, and Eli Shearer won three events to highlight Mohawk Trail Regional High School during a 90-53 Intercounty League boys’ track and field victory over Greenfield High School Monday afternoon in Buckland.
Coburn won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 9.1 seconds to record his personal best. Shearer, meanwhile, continued to dominate his events, winning the 200-meter dash in 23.4 seconds, and also capturing the long jump in 19 feet, 6½ inches, and the triple jump in 38-11.
Amar Abbatiello was the other multi-event winner for the Warriors (3-0), winning the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.7 seconds, and the pole vault at 12-10. Ben Warger won the 100 in 12 seconds, Cam Olanyk won the mile in 4:41, and Sam Rode won the 400 intermediate hurdles in 64.1 seconds. Jake Cross had an impressive high jump at 6 feet, and Hunter Gibson won the javelin at 119-8. The Mohawk 4×100 team of London Summers, Ben White, Gibson and Warger won in 46.1 seconds.
Steve Lively took a pair of events for Greenfield, winning the discus at 94-7, and the shot put at 34-8. David Giurgiu won the 400 meters for Greenfield in 57.4, and Tyssen LaBombard won the 2-mile in 12:00.8.
Frontier 106, Pioneer 39 — Chad Parent won all four events he participated in and Frontier Regional School defeated Pioneer Valley Regional School, 106-39, in a IL boys’ track and field meet Monday afternoon in South Deerfield.
Parent swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 11.8, and the 200 in 23.9, and he also swept the jumps, winning the long jump at 17-10½, and the triple jump at 34-3.75.
Andy Habel won the mile (4:56.4) and the pole vault (10-0) to earn two wins for the Hawks. Andy Paul won the 400 in 57.3, Connor Hamilton won the 800 in 2:06.6, Aidan Waldron won the 2-mile in 11:13.7, and Alex Hamer won the 110 hurdles in 20.6.
Carsten Carey won the high jump at 5-8, Jared Kellogg won the shot put in 37-6¾, and Ewan Bennett won the javelin at 105-9.
Pioneer picked up two wins on the day as Alyks Kostecki won the 400 hurdles in 71.1, and A.J. Wilson won the discus at 98-3.
FC Tech 70, Sabis 66 — Franklin County Technical School swept the two-mile to clinch the win and went on to defeat Sabis International Charter School, 70-66, in an independent boys’ track and field meet Monday in Turners Falls.
Sohan Tyler led the two-mile sweep by winning the event in 12:23.1. He also won the mile in 5:24.2.
Kahmal Wilson also claimed a pair of wins for Franklin Tech in the long jump (17-10) and 100-meter high hurdles (20.6).
Other event winners for the Eagles included Ricky Smith in the shot put (34-2½), Gabe Vorce in the discus (83-0), Dalton Wesoloski in the triple jump (33-1½), Owen Ortiz in the 100 meters (11.5), and Grayson Funk in the 800 meters (2:48.8).
Turners Falls 4, Holyoke 1 — Turners Falls High School won twice at singles and swept the doubles to defeat Holyoke High School, 4-1, in an independent boys’ tennis match Monday afternoon in Holyoke.
Avery Palmer knocked off Axel Cruz at second singles, 6-1, 6-2 for the Indians (4-3), and Ricky Craver earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bobby Anderson at third singles.
Mason Whiteman and Nick Morin came back from a set down at first doubles to earn a 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 7-5 win over Edward Anderson and Marty Keane, while Brian Poirier and Jovanni Ruggiano beat Jack Moriarty and Brayan Tavera, 6-3, 6-0 at second doubles.
West Springfield 3, Greenfield 2 — Ryan Hunter won the decisive point for West Springfield High School as it edged Greenfield, 3-2, in an independent boys’ tennis match Monday at the Davis Street Courts in Greenfield.
Hunter, playing at third singles, downed Victor Ivancev, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). The Terriers also swept the doubles matches, as Earl Rice and Jacob Johnson bested Fahrah Day and Josh Cady, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 1, and Shane Wilkinson and Daniel O’Toole over Brandon Siow beat Connor Pedigree, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
The Green Wave won the first two singles matches for its points — Stefan Walker outlasted Alec Kidman, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1, and George Felogloy blanked Beau Davis, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
Greenfield (3-2) travels to Turners Falls on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
West Springfield 3, Turners Falls 2 — West Springfield swept the two doubles matches and earned a win at third singles to edge Turners Falls, 3-2, in an independent girls’ tennis match Monday in Turners Falls.
Jeanette Vorobyova earned the key win for the terriers at third singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Hailey Trott.
Vanessa Kukharchuk and Amalie Moeller downed Amber Taylor and Carlie Kretchmar, 6-3, 6-1, at first doubles, and Jessica Mosijchuk and Auxana Newell blanked Emily Sevrens and Emmalee Dobosz, 6-0, 6-0, at second doubles for West Side’s other wins.
Alysha Wozniak outlasted Allison Mulvey, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, at first singles, and Kortney Thurber downed Allyson Fontaine, 6-2, 7-5, at second doubles for the Indians’ wins.
Turners Falls (2-5) hosts Chicopee Comprehensive High School Thursday at 4 p.m.
Athol 3, Chicopee Comp 1 — Carter Amadon registered 15 kills, 12 digs and scored eight service points to lead Athol High School to a 25-14, 25-10, 24-26, 25-15 victory over Chicopee Comprehensive High School in an independent boys’ volleyball match Monday Mallet Gymnasium in Athol.
Tyler Lajoie finished with eight kills, 21 assists, six aces (on 13 service points won) and three blocked shots. Lorenzo Carra finished with 16 assists, 13 points, five digs, two blocks and an ace, and Dustin Aikey had three kills. Ryan Whelpley chipped in four points, two kills and a dig, Allen Clair had four kills, four digs and four points, Nick Casella finished with two kills, three blocks, three digs and five points, and Nelson Leadbetter, Ryan Hulbert, Xavier Santana and Zack Roberts each had a kill.
