It was the Senior Night the Mohawk Trail girls basketball team had imagined, as Grace Ward scored six points, snagged 10 rebounds and swatted away 11 shots to lead the Warriors to a 39-34 Franklin County League West victory over Smith Academy on Monday night in Buckland.

The win snapped a six-game losing skid.

“It was a team effort tonight,” Mohawk coach Larissa Harrison said. “Everyone stepped up, it was a great win for our seniors.”

Mya Lesieur stepped up on the offensive end for the Warriors (4-15, 1-6), knocking down five shots, one from downtown, to finish with 12 points.

Grace Poplawski added 11 points in the win while Stella Clark had six points.

Mohawk stepped up on the defensive end in the fourth quarter, holding the Falcons (6-11, 2-4) to just six points.

Belchertown 66, Pioneer 62 — Jordan Lanoue scored a game-high 23 points, and visiting Belchertown qualified for the Western Mass. tournament thanks to a 66-62 win over Pioneer on Monday night at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield.

Belchertown’s win, coupled with a Mahar victory over Turners Falls on Monday, created a three-way tie for second place in the Hampshire League South between the three squads. All three are postseason bound, with the Orioles (9-11, 4-4) needing both results to go their way in order to get in despite a sub-.500 record.

Ryan Potter led Pioneer (7-12, 2-6) with 22 points, draining five 3-pointers to pace the offensive effort.

“We actually shot a bit better tonight but turned it over 17 times and they came at inopportune times,” Pioneer coach Scott Thayer said.

The Orioles used a 19-13 edge in the third quarter to overcome a 34-33 halftime deficit.

Troy Emond scored 14 points for the Panthers, with Jared Hubbard joining him in double figures with 12 points. Jayden Fox tossed in seven points.

Greenfield 86, Mohawk 39 — All 11 players that dressed scored points for the host Green Wave, which rolled to an 86-39 victory over Mohawk in an HL North contest at Nichols Gymnasium, Monday night.

Mason Meadows scored a game-high 26 points for Greenfield (12-7, 5-3), which led 27-13 after one quarter and 48-19 at halftime. Julius Brewington followed with 15 points, while the tandem of Henry Zwart and Maverick Ward scored 10 points apiece to join them in double figures. Brody Baird added six points in the victory.

Mohawk’s Anthony Moffatt led the charge for the visitors, scoring 12 points on the night. Tyler Dubreuil added 11 points and Austin Sumner registered seven points.

Drury 60, Frontier 46 — Scott McGuire was tough to contain for the Blue Devils, scoring a game-high 23 points as the Red Hawks fell, 60-46, in the independent contest on the road in North Adams.

Frontier made a big run in the third quarter, outscoring Drury 17-11, but it came after a first half in which the Red Hawks were outscored 30-17.

Peter Carey returned to the lineup to score 15 points for Frontier (15-4), with Sean Richter knocking down a trio of 3’s. Collin Beaudreau added eight points in the loss.
