SHELBURNE FALLS — The Recital Chorus directed by Margery Heins will perform its 26th annual holiday concert of vocal and choral music on Monday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Church.

According to a press release from Heins, the chorus is made up of college and community singers who will present traditional carols and seasonal music, rounds, spirituals and songs for Chanukah, as well as works from the 14th century to the present. Soloists and small groups will perform, and music will be sung in several languages.

Most singers in the Recital Chorus are Heins’ private voice students, the release states. They study with her at her studio in Shelburne Falls and at Greenfield Community College. Voice students learn solos in their lessons, and in addition, focus on the importance of small ensemble singing as they become members of the Recital Chorus.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, students have taken their lessons in a variety of ways to be conscious of health safety. They practiced in socially distanced fashions in parking lots, on porches and in backyards, as well as remotely by phone, Zoom and FaceTime, the release explains. A “Sidewalk Serenade” performed in Shelburne Falls on Dec. 16, 2020 served as a substitute for the Recital Chorus’ 25th annual holiday concert.

Heins will conduct the ensembles. According to the release, Keith Rollinson, organist and choir director at Trinity Church, will accompany.

Attendees are asked to wear masks. While the concert is free, donations (cash or check) will be accepted to benefit the Hilltown Churches Food Pantry.
