Repairs of two railroad bridges are expected soon, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The railroad repairs are expected to begin in the coming weeks, according to MassDOT spokesman Patrick Marvin. The work will be happening on bridges in both Deerfield and Greenfield, and is expected to last about 10 months.
The work will be done to replace bridge timbers at bridges that run over the Deerfield River, as well as River Road and Cheapside Road in Greenfield and Deerfield, Marvin said via email.
The project also includes new track construction and installation of a retaining wall.
The work is expected to take 320 calendar days to complete and will begin “in the coming weeks,” Marvin said, but no firm date was given.
Marvin said that the construction is not expected to impact train operations, but that it “may require short-term temporary road and lane closures to allow crews to conduct operations.”
The project is valued at $1.3 million and will be fully funded by MassDOT, according to Marvin.
