TURNERS FALLS — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries in the Patch neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, according to State Police Trooper Brandon Doherty and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

Emergency personnel responded just before 1 p.m. Responding agencies included State Police, police from Montague, Greenfield and Gill, Environmental Police, the Turners Falls Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) with an ambulance.

The Patch was closed off to the public until evening as emergency responders worked. Turners Falls Fire personnel diverted traffic from the 11th Street Bridge as police set up a perimeter and allowed K-9s to search the area. Police carrying rifles engaged in a search, too, along with the State Police Air Wing.

According to Doherty, the suspect was taken into custody by State Police at around 8:30 p.m. after troopers conducted a traffic stop along Interstate 91 in Hampden County.

Turners Falls Fire Deputy Chief Kyle Cogswell declined to comment regarding any extent of injury to the victim Tuesday afternoon, although Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Laurie Loisel said later that evening that the victim is expected to recover.

The incident is being investigated by State Police, Montague Police and the DA’s office. When contacted following the reopening of the Patch neighborhood, Montague Police Detective Sgt. Josh Hoffman deferred questions to the DA’s office. Loisel declined to release further information a mid the ongoing investigation.
