NORTHFIELD — Pioneer Valley Regional School’s graduation at the Northfield Drive-In has been postponed due to a technical problem involving the movie theater’s projector, school administrators say.

Originally set for Thursday, Principal Kevin Burke and Superintendent Jonathan Scagel said the graduation ceremony will now be held Monday, June 8, at 7:15 p.m., the pre-scheduled rain date.

According to Scagel, there was an issue with the projector that occurred during a test run Wednesday evening. Northfield Drive-In co-owner Julia Wiggin said a technical specialist diagnosed the issue and is scheduled to make repairs Friday.

“We’re still holding the ceremony and it’s going to be better than ever,” Wiggin said.

The drive-in location was chosen to accommodate social distancing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wiggins said Monday’s ceremony will also have livestreaming capabilities, so families can view the event at home. She said the drive-in is looking forward to hosting the Pioneer Class of 2020 for its ceremony.

“It’s gonna be really awesome,” she said.
