DEERFIELD — A firefighter was treated and released from Baystate Franklin Medical Center after sustaining minor injuries while battling a blazing pile of discarded wood and timbers on the All States Materials Group and Trew Stone LLC property on Saturday night.

According to the Deerfield Fire District’s Facebook page, firefighters were toned out to the area near The Wok restaurant on routes 5 and 10 for a report of smoke at 9:22 p.m. Shelburne Control received several more calls about heavy smoke and flames while firefighters were en route.

After a search, a pile of debris approximately 50 feet wide and 20 feet tall was found fully engulfed. The Greenfield Fire Department used an estimated 34,000 gallons of water and a foam through a deck gun to extinguish the fire, according to the post. A large bucket loader was also used to help spread out the pile, and the fire was deemed under control by 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Fire engines were brought in from Greenfield, Whately and Turners Falls. Tankers came from Conway, South Deerfield, Whately and Montague Center. According to the post, South Deerfield’s Brush 1 fire engine was also on scene to provide coverage in the case the fire extended into the woods, and Sunderland provided station coverage for Deerfield.
