GREENFIELD — The People’s Pint has partnered with the Building Bridges Veterans Initiative so you can raise a glass to — and some money for — those who have served their country.
The two have joined forces to create Building Bridges IPA, a New England-style India pale ale that The People’s Pint owner Alden Booth describes as a hazy brew with citrus notes. A percentage of every sale goes to Building Bridges, which provides comfortable spaces for veterans to gather for free lunches at local veterans clubs and lodges. In Greenfield, Building Bridges holds a lunch each Thursday at noon at the Elks Lodge, located at 2 Church St.
“We like brewing beers for good causes. We’ve done it for a number of years and this seemed like a really good cause,” Booth said.
A release party and meet-and-greet are planned to start at The People’s Pint on Federal Street at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The beer is available on tap and in four-packs.
Chad Wright, associate director of Building Bridges and a veteran himself, said he and Booth thought the beer would be a great way for civilians to support veterans.
“The common question is, ‘How can you thank a veteran for their service, instead of just walking up to them and saying thank you?’” he said. “You can buy a Building Bridges New England IPA.”
Wright served in the U.S. Army National Guard for eight years.
The beer is made by assistant and head brewer siblings Chris and Jess Gilbert.
“We canned it last week and it’s going out to stores this week,” Booth said by phone on Friday. “People have really been drinking it.”
He also said Building Bridges IPA will be flowing at the Brattleboro Brewers Festival set for May 28.
Wright said the beer will be available at Big Y supermarkets, Liquors 44 stores and local package stores.
