Alpine ski: Mohawk Trail’s Emmy Sisum wins final PVIAC regular season meet

It was fitting that the final PVIAC alpine ski regular season race of the season saw a Mohawk Trail skier stand atop the girls’ podium on Thursday.

The Warriors had the fastest skier in all seven regular season races, capped off by a first-place finish from Emmy Sisum at PVIAC Meet No. 7 at Berkshire East Mountain Resort.

Sisum bested the field in the giant slalom, posting a winning time of 30.37 seconds.

Teammate Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner was next for the Warriors, as she posted a third-place finish in 30.54 seconds. East Longmeadow’s Maggie Stevens was the runner-up in 30.49.

Mohawk Trail’s Mae Hoff was 11th for a balanced team performance, crossing the tape in 32.17 seconds.

The Warriors wound up with six of the top 20 individual finishers. Brooke Koshinsky was 16th (32.88), followed by Naomi Den Ouden (19th, 33.41) and Caroline Makosiej (20th, 33.86).

Ohia Dellert was 25th overall for Mohawk Trail.

The PVIAC Individual Championships are next on the docket, scheduled for Tuesday at Berkshire East.

On the boys’ side, Mohawk Trail had three skiers in the top 10 of the slalom. Weston Den Ouden was second overall, posting a time of 40.72 seconds. Pope Francis’ Keegan Sears won the slalom by a narrow margin, thanks to a time of 40.34 seconds.

Teammate Phineas Tuttman was right behind Den Ouden in third position, crossing with a time of 43.24 seconds. Also posting a top 10 finish for the Warriors was Grayson Bishop, who was ninth in 47.84 seconds.

Gage Patenaude (18th, 53.68), Ben Zarotny (27th, 57.27) and Zavel Gardner (35th, 1:01.88) rounded out the top six skiers for Mohawk Trail.
