ORANGE — Voters’ decision to increase membership of the Selectboard from three to five will come to fruition at the annual town election on March 5, 2018, according to Town Clerk Nancy Blackmer.

Nomination papers for the election will be available starting Dec. 13, during regular business hours in the town clerk’s office.

As a result of the vote taken at last week’s special town meeting, three Selectboard seats will be on the ballot. Along with the two new openings, the other seat up is the one Board Chairman Ryan Mailloux sits in, since his term is expiring.

Two people will be elected for three-year terms and one person will be elected to a two-year seat.

Any registered voter interested in running for one of these positions must get nomination papers and collect a minimum of 25 signatures from registered voters. When picking up the nomination papers, the voter will have to state if they wish to run for the three-year positions or the two-year spot. During the annual town election, voters will be instructed to vote for two people for three-year terms and one person for a two-year term. The two candidates with the highest number of votes for three years will be elected, as will the two-year candidate who receives the highest number of votes.

Anyone interested in the process of running for one of these positions can contact the Blackmer at 978-544-1100, ext. 101, or stop in the office with questions. The town clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) on Wednesdays. Town Hall is closed on Fridays.
