My Turn: Opening opportunities through student internships

For a college student, an internship can be the gateway to a career by offering real job experience. It can also help a student in making the important decision of their career choice. Unfortunately, more than 40 percent of internships opportunities are unpaid, and therefore inaccessible to many students. The newly created Greenfield Community College Internship Program Fund will open the door to internships by providing financial support for paid internships through cost-sharing with the host organization.

In recognition of the life-changing effect that an internship can offer students, Greenfield Savings Bank has made a contribution of $50,000 to help establish the fund. We strongly support and applaud GCC for empowering students in their career choices by enabling them to gain hands-on experience in the field of their choice through an internship.

The GCC Internship Program offers local students a path to a better life and career. This is especially important for students who don’t have family connections to help them sort through career options and prepare for their first professional position after completing college. Many college students are unaware of different careers they can have. Internships can fill that gap.

As a local bank, we are committed to supporting the local economy and our local communities. We are proud to support GCC and the GCC Internship Program as part our mission to help improve the lives of individuals and families in the communities we serve. We invite other businesses and financial institutions to join us in contributing to the GCC Internship Program and help expand the opportunities for the students in our communities.
