SUNDERLAND — Community members will have through November to participate in the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library’s first fall online auction.

The Virtual Fall Arts & Crafts Fair, which began Thursday and will continue through midnight on Nov. 30, was organized as an alternative to the Friends’ traditional book and bake sale, which was canceled this year as a result of gathering restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to items donated by local artists and businesses, a Boston Bruins jersey, signed by player David Krejci, will be up for auction, according to a press release from the library.

“We are so pleased that so many incredibly talented and generous artisans and businesses are supporting the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library in our new online auction,” said Barbara Morrell, president of the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library. “We rely on our book sales to raise critical funds for the library each year, and we are excited to try this new fundraiser for the first time.”

All proceeds from the auction will support the library’s programs, technology for patrons and other essential community services, according to the release.

“Library services are more important than ever as our patrons adjust to a new way of life,” said Library Director Katherine Umstot. “Without the support of the Friends of the Sunderland Public Library and their donors, Sunderland Public Library would not be able to provide many critical services to our patrons.”
