ATHOL — The Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation has named employee Sara McNally as the “Three Square Meals” Food Ambassador of its Athol store at 62 Freedom St.

The Athol resident was chosen due to her enthusiasm for the “Three Square Meals” family meal assistance charitable program and its community mindedness. There are 127 “Food Ambassadors” selected annually, one at each store across New England, New York and New Jersey and one at the corporate headquarters in North Kingstown, R.I.

As part of the 2017 “Three Square Meals” truck convoy event held at headquarters, each “ambassador” was recognized with name, photo and store location on a series of posters that now hang in the headquarters’ lobby. And each received a personalized letter of congratulations and gift card from OSJL President and Co-Founder Alan Perlman, who established the “Three Square Meals” program years ago.

David Sarlitto, an executive director with OSJL and its charitable foundation, said the company matches the money raised through in-store customer donations at the register and contributions from the business community between November and December each year to help battle food insecurity. Sarlitto said the OSJL food-buying group continuously buys food for year-round distribution to 19 food banks and pantries.

Employees are nominated by their regional, district and store managers to become food ambassadors.
