GREENFIELD – The nurses union has delivered a petition to Baystate Franklin Medical Center President Cindy Russo less than a week after the nurses held an informational picket outside the hospital,

The action marks the latest move in the ongoing contract negotiations, which dates back to November 2016. There are about 200 nurses at the hospital, working part-time or full-time.

The petition, with about 900 total signatures, according to the union, restated the nurses’ points about having the right number of nurses each shift to provide sufficient care to patients, enough security officers for the safety of the hospital and competitive wages.

“BFMC nurses’ issues are our issues. We trust and support the expressed needs of the RNs and other health care workers as a bellwether of what the hospital requires to meet the needs of the community,” the petition reads.

The online version of the petition has about 400 signatures. The petition, started by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, was first made available online two months ago. Other signatures have been collected in person.

The hospital, led by Russo, has maintained its position that they are bargaining in good terms.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for Thursday.
