ORANGE — Jeff Cole, president of the Orange Scholarship Fund, was recently presented with a $9,000 check from the Mahar 50+ Club, made up of alumni from Ralph C. Mahar Regional School classes that graduated at least 50 years ago, to be put toward the scholarship fund.
The alumni club meets annually on the third Saturday in September for a dinner to socialize and raise money to be used for scholarships for Mahar graduates. The event features a meal and several raffles to raise money. The group also contacts other class members who cannot attend and asks for donations.
In operation for the past 10 years, donations have grown each year, including during the pandemic years when no dinner was held but alumni were still asked to donate. The $9,000 check was presented by club Co-Chairs Muriel Holden and Maureen Riendeau.
The Mahar 50+ Club is trying to obtain email addresses for anyone who attended Mahar from 1957 to 1975 to distribute up-to-date information about the September gathering and fundraising. If you attended Mahar during those years and have not been receiving club information, send an email to murielholden@verizon.net, mriendeau@mass.rr.com or gramkeri@icloud.com to update your contact information.

WENDELL — Local artist Court Dorsey is prepared to lead “The Twelve Mysteries: A Whole Way of Life,” a workshop, at the Wendell Meetinghouse on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“‘The Twelve Mysteries’ is a set of practices that is both mystical and practical,” Dorsey said in a statement. “This is a time when resilience and well-being may require us to work with whatever instruments help us remain centered, active and happy. I offer this workshop as one possible source of ease and support.”
Dorsey developed “The Twelve Mysteries” during a pilgrimage to northern India in 1973 and 1974 that involved an intensive period of meditation.
“This workshop is both an introduction to the poems and suggests practices that can help align us with a whole way of living,” Dorsey explained. “It is also an example of one individual’s interpretation of the universal mystic way.”
Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. Hot beverages and snacks will be provided. Advance notice of attendance is helpful, but not required. A suggested donation of $20 to 50 will go to help defray costs, and support Dorsey’s work and programming at the Wendell Meetinghouse. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
