Senior Citizens Club to meet Dec. 7

ORANGE — The Orange Senior Citizens Club will meet at the Orange Senior Center, 62 Cheney St., at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7.

This is a regular monthly business meeting, and all members are invited to attend. Guests and new members are also welcome. The meeting’s agenda includes the secretary’s report, the treasurer’s report and committee reports. Any new business and old business will be discussed.

Linda Knechtel, chair of the Program Committee, reported that the December meeting will include a Yankee swap of small wrapped gifts. Gifts may be valued at $5 but not more than $10. There will also be a cookie exchange. Anyone who wishes to participate is asked to bring a dozen cookies for the swap. There will be extra cookies for refreshments at the meeting.

Reports of committees were given by chairpersons at the November meeting. The Scholarship Committee announced the Orange Senior Citizens Club will award two $500 scholarships to students who are Orange residents. Applications will be available in the Student Services Department at Ralph C. Mahar Regional School. Students who are also Orange residents and will graduate from Mahar or Franklin County Technical School in 2024 or who are already attending a college or university are also eligible.

Announcements of upcoming community events are always part of the December meeting, and a 50/50 drawing will take place.

Any local resident, age 50 or older, is eligible to join the Orange Senior Citizens Club. Dues are $5 per year.

ORANGE — Orange Historical Society members have decked the halls of the 41 North Main St. museum with decorations and a Christmas tree.

NEW SALEM — The new fire truck voted on at Annual Town Meeting and later approved by a debt-exclusion vote has been delivered.

The purchase order for the truck was for $613,399.

Fire Chief Joe Cuneo said a new truck comes with a 15- to 25-year life expectancy, whereas the former primary response pumper truck was 37 years old and in dire need of replacement.

Month-long book sale at New Salem Public Library

NEW SALEM — The Friends of the New Salem Public Library will hold a holiday pop-up book sale throughout the month.

There will be special holiday pricing of “buy one, get one free” for items of the same price. There is a large collection of books, audiobooks and DVDs for all ages.

The books are on the book sale shelves in both entrance foyers and in the Community Room. All proceeds go to support the library.

Full Moon Coffeehouse designates Wendell Meetinghouse as concert beneficiary

WENDELL — In support of the Friends of the Wendell Meetinghouse’s mission to preserve and restore the structure as a center for spiritual, cultural and community programs, the Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse designated it as its beneficiary for the second concert of the coffeehouse’s fall 2023 season.

The Green Sisters will perform bluegrass, blues and country music at Wendell Town Hall, with proceeds supporting Wendell Meetinghouse operations and renovations. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $6 to $20.

Wendell Full Moon Coffeehouse concerts feature an open mic, the popular Dessert-O-Rama and hot beverages.
