Roast beef suppers begin for season

BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston at 58 Church St. is bringing back its Second Saturday Roast Beef Suppers for the season starting Saturday, Oct. 14, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

At a price of $15, each meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, a roll and pie for dessert.

St. Patrick’s Church offering to-go meals

NORTHFIELD — St. Patrick’s Church at 80 Main St. will offer to-go meals of roast pork, roasted potatoes, vegetables, apple sauce and dessert on Saturday, Oct. 14, with pick-up available between 3 and 5 p.m.

Each meal costs $15. To make your reservation by Tuesday, Oct. 10, call Kelly at 413-824-6123.

Scam talk, lunch set for Oct. 11

LEYDEN — Linda Ackerman of Greenfield Savings Bank will speak about scams and frauds at Town Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m.

Following the talk, at 11:30 a.m., a community lunch of Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, salad and apple crisp will be served. Reservations are recommended by calling Council on Aging Assistant Linda Allis at 413-834-4417.

LEYDEN — Outreach Coordinator Matt Aversa will be available on the second Tuesday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Town Offices to help with fuel assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applications, electric bills, veterans’ questions, Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone (SHINE) applications and other matters. This month’s date is Oct. 10.

The outreach coordinator position is funded thanks to a grant awarded to the Bernardston Senior Center from the Massachusetts Councils on Aging and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

COA, YMCA offering tai ji quan classes

LEYDEN — The Council on Aging and Franklin County’s YMCA are offering a free, six-week virtual tai ji quan exercise class that focuses on balance, muscle strength, flexibility and mobility to enhance physical health.

Participants of all fitness levels can livestream the class at home or join participants at the Town Offices. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon starting Oct. 24.
