Trash bag price increases

BERNARDSTON — The price for trash bags has been raised to $2.50 per bag, representing the first increase in 15 years, according to Town Coordinator Louis Bordeaux.

Bordeaux said the increase was necessitated by increased recycling costs to the town.

Units of 10 bags are available for $25 at the Transfer Station on Thursdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pop-up pantry continues

BERNARDSTON — The Senior Center continues to source donations for its pop-up food pantry, and is seeking unopened, non-perishable food and monetary donations to support the purchase of produce and personal care items.

An Amazon wishlist is also available at tinyurl.com/yb8m3668 for donors to review and order items needed.

To sign up to be a recipient of the pantry’s goods, call 413-834-7200. Sign ups are required for each pantry day, held at 4:30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month.

Town clerk clarifies Selectboard election process

NORTHFIELD — According to Town Clerk Dan Campbell, the July 28 ballot question to change the Selectboard from a three-member board to a five-member board will not in fact require anyone to run to fill those seats this year, as was previously believed.

“The question to change the Selectboard from a three- to a five-member board will be on the ballot on July 28,” Campbell explained. “If it passes, then next year’s annual town election will have two three-year terms and one two-year term. This was clarified by our town counsel.”

Campbell said there is only one Selectboard seat up for election in July, and that position holds a three-year term.
