Lighten Up Trio to perform July 10

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host the Lighten Up Trio, performing folk, country, oldies and modern songs, on Monday, July 10, at 3:30 p.m.

Music will be followed by the evening cafe at 4:30 p.m. Reserve dinner by calling 413-648-5319 by July 6. The meal will consist of pasta with meat sauce, garlic bread, vegetables and dessert.

‘Coffee and History’ programs offered at Town Offices

LEYDEN — The Historical Commission will offer “Coffee and History” programs on Saturdays, July 8 and July 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Leyden Town Offices.

Overnight campout planned at Avery Field

LEYDEN — The Robertson Memorial Library and the Leyden Recreation Committee will host an overnight campout at Avery Field on Saturday, July 8, starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until Sunday, July 9, at 10 a.m.

Johnny Cash songs

LEYDEN — New England musician and author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash and tell stories about Cash’s career, spanning from the 1950s to his death in 2003, at the Avery Field Pavilion on Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m.

The program is supported in part by a grant from the Leyden Cultural Council.

July 12: Walk-in wellness clinic

LEYDEN — A walk-in wellness clinic will be held at Leyden Town Hall on Wednesday, July 12, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Services include blood pressure and pulse checks, syringe exchanges, and tools like blood pressure cuffs or pill sorters.

Upon request, the nurse can also bring COVID-19 bivalent boosters or make home visits for people who have trouble coming to Town Hall. To reserve vaccination doses or to discuss health concerns, contact the Franklin Regional Council of Government nurses at 413-774-3167, ext. 156.

COA providing
community lunches

LEYDEN — The Council on Aging will provide community lunches at Leyden Town Hall on Wednesdays, July 12, and Aug. 9, at 11:30 a.m. A speaker precedes the lunches at 11.

Meals include make-your-own cold-cut sandwiches, salad and cookies for dessert. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.

Real estate market talk set for July 13

BERNARDSTON — Cory Wells, a real estate agent with ROVI Homes New England, will discuss market trends and the methods used to compare home prices during a talk at the Bernardston Senior Center on Thursday, July 13, at 11:30 a.m.

‘Art in the Woods’ offered on Tuesdays

LEYDEN — The Leyden Cultural Council is sponsoring free art programs for children at the Avery Field Pavilion on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. starting July 11. In the event of inclement weather, classes will move inside Town Hall.

All materials are provided and an adult must accompany all children. Spots are limited, so attendees must register at bit.ly/3CWLOk7.

Two ‘Happy Feet’ walks planned in July

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s “Happy Feet” walking group will hold two walks in July.

On Monday, July 17, at 10 a.m., participants will meet at the Canalside Rail Trail in Turners Falls. Attendees are advised to park across from Brick & Feather Brewery on 11th Street. Seniors who use a walker or wheelchair are encouraged to attend.

On Monday, July 31, at 10 a.m., participants will meet at the Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center, 99 Millers Falls Road (Route 63). This walk will involve uneven surfaces.

Dogs on leashes are welcome at both walks.

July 19: Marbling class with Ginny Rockwood

NORTHFIELD — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will present a class on marbling, a method of aqueous surface design, at the Northfield Senior Center on Wednesday, July 19, at 1 p.m.

Registration is required by July 12 by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 114. The cost is $6 for all materials and professional instruction. The class requires a minimum of four people and will be capped at 12 people.

Participants are advised to bring a smock if they have one. If the weather is fair, the class may move outdoors.

Farley String Band to perform July 24

BERNARDSTON — The Farley String Band will perform traditional folk and fiddle tunes, as well as popular standards, at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, July 24, at 3:30 p.m.

Music will be followed by the evening cafe at 4:30 p.m. Reserve dinner by calling 413-648-5319 by July 20. The meal will consist of finger sandwiches, coleslaw, potato salad and dessert.

Travel Club heading to Shelburne Falls, Hadley

The Travel Club offered by the Bernardston and Northfield senior centers will take a trip to the Bridge of Flowers and lunch in Shelburne Falls on Friday, July 21, and to the Hadley Walmart and lunch on Friday, July 28. Registration is required by Thursdays, July 13 and July 20, respectively.

Sign-ups are limited to six people from each town. There will be a waitlist in case one town has spaces open up. The cost is $6 roundtrip and participants will meet at the Bernardston Senior Center.

Aug. 17: Heritage Riverboat cruise

Seniors of Bernardston and Northfield are encouraged to sign up for a Connecticut River cruise on the Heritage Riverboat on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. The 12-mile narrated cruise takes about an hour and a half and can accommodate 44 people.

Registration, with a $13 payment, is due by July 20. Bernardston and Northfield seniors can also have lunch at the Bernardston Senior Center following the cruise for $3.

My Art Company presents painting classes

BERNARDSTON — My Art Company will present a pair of painting classes at the Bernardston Senior Center on Tuesdays, July 25 and Aug. 22. Both classes will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Registration is helpful but not required. New participants are welcome. Artists can bring their own watercolor paints and brushes, though most supplies will be available. A $5 donation per class is recommended to offset the cost of the program.

July 27: Tick bite prevention

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a tick bite prevention event on Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Attendees are welcome to bring pairs of their shoes, which can be sprayed with permethrin, a chemical derived from chrysanthemum flowers that is used as an insecticide. No registration is required.

Shuffleboard league meets
Mondays

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center’s shuffleboard league meets on Mondays at 10 a.m. Shuffleboard is played in neighboring Cushman Park. Equipment is provided.
