‘Spirit and Spa’ co-author coming to library

NORTHFIELD — David James, co-author of “Spirit and Spa” with the late Louise Shattuck and Sheryl Sadler-Twyon of Montague Center, will read excerpts from the book on Thursday, July 18, from 6 to 6:45 p.m., followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session at Dickinson Memorial Library.

“Spirit and Spa” is a memoiristic and vintage photograph depiction of the history of spiritualism in Lake Pleasant, now celebrating its 150th anniversary. Shattuck was a third-generation spiritualist and Sadler-Twyon’s great-grandparents were spiritualists living in Lake Pleasant.

“Spirit and Spa” traces Lake Pleasant from its earliest days as a vibrant resort for thousands to the quiet hamlet of less than 200 residents that it is today. The book also looks at the remnant that remains: The National Spiritual Alliance (TNSA).
