Monthly puzzle swap planned for Saturday, Jan. 6

NORTHFIELD — Free used puzzles will be available at Dickinson Memorial Library on Saturday, Jan. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Attendees are advised to park in the back and enter through the side door of the library. Turn left to find the Community Room.

Participants are invited to take as many puzzles as they want, and can keep them as long as they need. The puzzle swap is offered monthly.

Community lunch in to-go format this month

LEYDEN — Although an in-person community meal will not be offered this month, residents can pick up to-go meals at Leyden Town Hall or have meals delivered to them on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. The menu consists of lasagna, salad, garlic bread and cookies.

To reserve a meal, call Linda Allis at 413-834-4417. Advise her whether you plan to pick up a meal or if you need the meal delivered to your home.

In the event of inclement weather, the lunch will be postponed until Thursday, Jan. 11.

■Tuesday, Jan. 9, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. — Color mixing with acrylics. Participants are advised to bring a 1-inch paint brush if they have one. The class will be limited to 16 participants.

■Tuesdays, Jan. 16 and 30, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. — Make a colorful impressionistic work of art. Painting participants can sign up for one class. Sign-ups will be limited to eight participants.

Most supplies will be available, though painters can bring their own paints and brushes. There is a $5 fee per class.

BERNARDSTON — Join Bonnie Robert, registered respiratory therapist at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, for a brief discussion on lung disease and nutrition at the Bernardston Senior Center on Thursday, Jan. 11, at noon.

Negative painting class set for Jan. 12

BERNARDSTON — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead a class on negative painting with watercolors at the Bernardston Senior Center on Friday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.

Negative painting is a method of painting where the object itself is not painted; it is the background around the object that is painted. Basic watercolor instruction will be offered.

There is a $5 fee and the class will limited to 10 students.

roast beef supper

BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston at 58 Church St. will hold its next Second Saturday Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, Jan. 13, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

At a price of $15, each meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, a roll and pie for dessert.

Call 413-648-9306 to reserve your preferred seating time or to reserve take-out meals. Suppers will continue monthly through April.

Magic Wings, Wendy’s on Travel Club’s itinerary

The Travel Club offered by the Bernardston and Northfield senior centers will head to Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and have lunch at Wendy’s on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m.

Sign-ups are limited to six people from each town. There will be a waitlist in case one town has spaces open up. The cost for the van is $6 roundtrip, and the Magic Wings entry fee is $12.50 for seniors ages 62 and up. Participants will meet at the Bernardston Senior Center. Alternatively, pickup at home is available.
