Dec. 9: Next roast beef supper

BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston at 58 Church St. will hold its next Second Saturday Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, Dec. 9, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

At a price of $15, each meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, a roll and pie for dessert.

Call 413-648-9306 to reserve your preferred seating time or to reserve take-out meals. Suppers will continue monthly through April.

Vendors, music and food on tap for ‘Sleigh Bell Sunday’

NORTHFIELD — Cameron’s Winery and The Back Room Brewing Co. at 1046 Millers Falls Road will present “Sleigh Bell Sunday” on Dec. 10, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event will feature carols performed by Corki & Ken, doughnuts from Adam’s Donut Shop in Greenfield, holiday brews, chocolate wine parfaits, mulled wines, cheese tastings and raffles. There will also be several vendors, including Diane Murley’s Art, Michelle Lawler, Cards and Crafts of Montague, Adria Lowry Unique Floral Design of Northfield, Shane Duclos Wood Design and Gifts of Northfield, and Oceanas Jewelry Design of Northfield.

Debi Spyre to
provide music ahead of Evening Cafe

BERNARDSTON — Singer and guitarist Debi Spyre will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. Music will be followed by the Evening Cafe at 4 p.m.

Spyre enjoys performing a variety of styles, including folk, pop, country, jazz, funk, fusion, rock, Celtic, Christian and classical.

The Evening Cafe will serve lasagna, meatballs, zucchini, cauliflower and dessert. A $3 donation is suggested.

‘Happy Feet’
walking group heads to Gill

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s “Happy Feet” walking group will meet at the Barton Cove campground in Gill on Monday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m.

Dogs on leashes are welcome. In the event of severe weather, the walk will be canceled. Call the Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 123 if you are unsure of the status.

Travel Club heading to Walmart

The Northfield and Bernardston senior centers are partnering for a Travel Club that will take participants to the Hadley Walmart and out for lunch on Friday, Dec. 15. Participants will depart from the Bernardston Senior Center at 9 a.m.

Call Shannon at 413-768-1824 to reserve a space by Dec. 11. Van rides to Bernardston are also available if needed. The trip is free.

Yankee swap, chili meal planned to mark Winter
Solstice

NORTHFIELD — To mark the Winter Solstice, the Northfield Senior Center will serve chili and host a Yankee swap on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 12:30 p.m.

Attendees can choose between white chicken chili and butternut squash chili. The menu also includes a vegetable platter, rolls and breads, and gingerbread for dessert.

Reservations are required by calling the Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 123 by Thursday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m. A $6 suggested donation is appreciated to cover costs. Attendance will be capped at 25.

Those who would like to participate in the Yankee swap gift exchange should bring a wrapped gift to share. There is a $5 spending limit.

Dec. 19: ‘How to Survive the
Holidays’

NORTHFIELD — Social worker Matt Aversa will lead a free program titled “How to Survive the Holidays” at the Northfield Senior Center on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

A holiday season full of high expectations for joy and happiness can cause feelings of loneliness and social isolation. In this program, participants will explore ways to redefine those expectations and be proactive about making connections.

Senior Center
starting monthly Memory Cafe

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center has started a monthly Memory Cafe to provide support and socialization for adults and their caregivers from any town who are dealing with memory-related issues. The program will be offered on the fourth Wednesday of each month starting Dec. 27, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

This month, musical entertainment will be provided by Dave Herrera of BowTie Studios. A light lunch will be included.

Holiday events on the horizon

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a series of holiday-themed events involving crafts, music and sweet treats throughout the month. They are as follows:

■“Quilling with Nan” — Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. Learn to quill with paper and make an ornament. $5 donation.

■“Snowman Scene with Dianne” — Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 12:30 p.m. $5 donation.

■Bernardston Elementary School Holiday Carolers with the Romeos — Thursday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m.

■“German Christmas Stars with Ginny” — Friday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. $5 donation.

■Gingerbread Man Cookie Decorating — Monday, Dec. 18, at noon. $5 donation.

■Holiday Cookie Swap — Thursday, Dec. 21, at noon.

■“Bracelet Making with Donna Newton” — Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. Donations accepted.

Senior Center to host holiday
luncheon

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a holiday luncheon on Friday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m.

The event will feature music from the Falltown String Band, an ugly holiday sweater contest and lunch, which will include ham, scalloped potatoes and dessert.

Lunch is sponsored by the Council on Aging. A $3 donation is appreciated, but not required.

Sand, salt buckets available for Northfield seniors

NORTHFIELD — Sand and salt buckets for seniors can be reserved for the winter season by calling the Northfield Senior Center at 413-498-2901, ext. 123.
