Aug. 3: Falconry program

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library will host a falconry program on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the program will be moved to Saturday, Aug. 31, at 2:30 p.m.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northfield Cultural Council.

Next puzzle swap set for Aug. 3

NORTHFIELD — Free used puzzles will be available at Dickinson Memorial Library on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Attendees are advised to park in the back and enter through the side door of the library. Turn left to find the Community Room.

More than 400 puzzles in a range of sizes are available. Participants are invited to take as many puzzles as they want, and can keep them as long as they need. The puzzle swap is offered monthly.

BERNARDSTON — The Powers Institute Museum at ‪20 Church St. will be open Sunday, Aug. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendants this month will be Dick Nelson, Ingrid Skiff and Pat Grover.

Ample parking is located at the rear of the building. The second floor may be accessed by both stairs and an elevator.

Test your knowledge of banking, finances at coffee social

NORTHFIELD — Linda Ackerman of Greenfield Savings Bank will present a “Game of Chance,” testing participants’ knowledge on banking and finances, at the Northfield Senior Center on Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. This program is being offered during the monthly coffee social, which starts at 10 a.m.

Aug. 6: Shrink film art class

NORTHFIELD — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead an art class working with shrink film at the Northfield Senior Center from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The class will use colored pencils and alcohol markers to color drawings, then shrink them with heat. The colors intensify and the plastic shrinks, making the results appropriate for making jewelry, magnets, key rings and more.

This event is limited to 10 participants and costs $8. Registration is required by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 123.

Play the ‘Test Your Knowledge’ card game

BERNARDSTON — Linda Ackerman of Greenfield Savings Bank will host a “Test Your Knowledge” card game at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Bernardston Senior Center.

Appalachian Still performing by Cushman Library

BERNARDSTON — The band Appalachian Still will perform outside Cushman Library by the pond at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

In the event of rain, the performance will be postponed until Aug. 14.

Final summer art workshop set for Aug. 10

LEYDEN — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead the last in a series of three summer art workshops downstairs at Town Hall on Saturday, Aug. 10.

This workshop is divided into two parts: a morning session from 10 a.m. to noon where participants will decorate paper by marbling it and learning suminagashi, a Japanese method of marbling; and an afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. where participants will use some of that paper to hand bind two different kinds of books. Attendees can sign up for either the morning or the afternoon session, or both sessions together.

This workshop is open to those ages 12 and up, and it is suitable for experienced artists as well as for those who just like to make things. Due to the support of the Leyden Cultural Council, there is no cost to participate.

Sarah Clay & The StarCats coming to Senior Center

BERNARDSTON — Funded through a grant from the Bernardston Cultural Council, the Bernardston Senior Center will host a performance of Sarah Clay & The StarCats at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.

The Evening Cafe, to follow at 4 p.m., will serve chicken souvlaki, noodles, vegetables and a fig bar. Reserve a meal by Aug. 8, by calling 413-648-5319. A $3.50 donation is requested.
