Monthly puzzle swap planned for Saturday

NORTHFIELD — Free used puzzles will be available at Dickinson Memorial Library on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Attendees are advised to park in the back and enter through the side door of the library. Turn left to find the Community Room.

Participants are invited to take as many puzzles as they want, and can keep them as long as they need. The puzzle swap is offered monthly.

Aug. 6: Brandon Goulet performing at Avery Field

LEYDEN — Brandon Goulet will perform a solo acoustic show at Avery Field on Sunday, Aug. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of the Music in the Woods series.

Goulet performs music from the 1960s to modern-day, including songs by The Beatles, John Mayer, Elton John and Pink Floyd. He also performs original music.

In the event of inclement weather or air quality concerns, the concert will be held in Town Hall. The concert is sponsored in part by the Leyden Cultural Council.

Northfield resident earns master’s degree

ALBANY, N.Y. — Northfield resident Julie Rosier earned her master’s degree in information science from the University at Albany during the spring commencement ceremony.

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a talk on Conservacion Panama, a Greenfield nonprofit that has worked to conserve migratory and resident birds and their habitats in Panama since 2013, on Monday, Aug. 7, at 3 p.m.

Two walks planned in August

NORTHFIELD — The Happy Feet walking group will meet twice in August.

The first walk will start from Dickinson Memorial Library’s parking lot at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7. Participants will head down Main Street, cross over at Maple Street and loop back to the library. Seniors with a walker or wheelchair are encouraged to attend as the walk consists of flat, even surfaces.

The second walk, on Monday, Aug. 21, at 9:30 a.m., will convene at the Barton Cove campground off Route 2 in Gill. This walk has uneven surfaces. Participants are advised to bring water and wear insect repellant.

Dogs on leashes are welcome at both walks. In the event of steady rain, the walks will be canceled.

Group singing set for Aug. 14

BERNARDSTON — Sara Snyder, with her ukulele, will lead group singing at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, Aug. 14, at 3:30 p.m. Lyrics will be provided.

Music will be followed by the Senior Center’s evening cafe at 4:30 p.m. The meal will consist of potato crunch pollack, red bliss potatoes, peas, wheat bread and peaches. A $3 donation is requested. Call 413-648-5319 to reserve a meal by Aug. 9.

Kiwanis Club hosting free picnic

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Kiwanis Club will host a free picnic at the club’s pavilion, 835 Brattleboro Road, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, starting at 5 p.m.

A ham dinner, along with beans, coleslaw and dessert, will be served at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Chase Barton.

Book binding class set for Aug. 16

NORTHFIELD — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead a class on book binding at the Northfield Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m.

Participants will receive instructions for two different types of book binding: pamphlet binding and stab binding. Attendees are welcome to bring decorative paper or wrapping paper that could serve as a cover, and materials will also be available to share. Once completed, the books can be used as journals, small photo albums, miniature cookbooks and more.

To register, call 413-498-2901, ext. 114 by Aug. 9. The cost is $6. The class requires a minimum of four people and will be capped at eight people.

Aug. 16: Lunch at Leyden Town Hall

LEYDEN — The Leyden Council on Aging will host a community lunch at Town Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 11:30 a.m.

The menu includes make-your-own sandwiches and dessert. Registrations are requested, but not required, by calling Linda Allis at 413-834-4417. Residents can also request a meal be dropped off at their home.

Council on Aging seeks cookbook recipes

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Council on Aging is creating a cookbook and is seeking submitted recipes.

Residents can submit their name, their favorite recipe and any history outlining where the recipe comes from by emailing coa@townofbernardston.org or by dropping them off in person to Senior Center Director Jennifer Reynolds.

Aug. 18: Marbling with Ginny Rockwood

BERNARDSTON — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will lead a class on marbling — a form of surface decoration where color is floated onto water, manipulated and then transferred to paper or fabric — at the Bernardston Senior Center on Friday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants are advised to wear old clothes or bring a smock or apron. The class costs $6 and most supplies will be available.

Painting session set for Aug. 22

BERNARDSTON — My Art Company will lead a painting session at the Bernardston Senior Center on Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The class costs $5 and most supplies will be available, although participants are welcome to bring their own watercolor paints and brushes.

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center will host a light lunch, featuring a speaker from Greenfield Savings Bank, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Library hosting second annual stuffed animal sleepover

LEYDEN — Robertson Memorial Library is planning its second annual stuffed animal sleepover.

Children of all ages can drop off their stuffed animals at the library on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 1 to 6 p.m. and then pick them up between 9 and 10 a.m. the next morning or by appointment.
