Next monthly meal set for April 10

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s next monthly meal will be held Wednesday, April 10, at 12:30 p.m.

The menu will consist of Italian pasta bake (choice of vegetarian or sausage), spring mix salad, garlic bread and dessert. The cost is $7.

Advance registration is required by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 123 by 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 4. The meal is limited to 25 people.

April 8: ‘King Philip’s War in Your Backyard’

BERNARDSTON — David Brule, president of the Nolumbeka Project, will speak on “King Philip’s War in Your Backyard,” as well as provide updates on the latest findings of the National Park Service’s study of the Great Falls Massacre and counterattack, at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, April 8, at 3 p.m.

The program will be followed by an Evening Cafe at 4 p.m. Dinner will be chicken teriyaki, white rice, Asian blend vegetables and brownies. A $3 donation is requested. Call Clare at 413-648-5319 to reserve dinner by April 4.

Open painting session coming up

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host an open painting session on Tuesday, April 9, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Participants should bring a painting they have been working on and want to complete. Some supplies and limited help will be available. Participants will need to set up and clean up their own workspace. Sign-up is advised. A $3 fee helps cover the cost of supplies.

Lunch program paired with talk on downsizing

LEYDEN — This month’s community lunch at Leyden Town Hall, to be held Wednesday, April 10, will include a talk by Linda Ackerman of Greenfield Savings Bank on “How to Downsize.”

Ackerman’s talk starts at 11 a.m. Lunch, which will include Swedish meatballs and scalloped potatoes, will start at noon.

Rockwood to teach ‘blotted line’ technique

BERNARDSTON — Retired art teacher Ginny Rockwood will teach the “blotted line” technique at the Bernardston Senior Center on Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The technique, once used by Andy Warhol, uses drawing, printing and painting. Once printed, participants’ designs will be colored with watercolors. Attendees are advised to bring some photos or drawings, around 5 by 8 inches, to serve as their subjects and to work from, though some images will be provided for use. Participants should also bring a smock or apron. The fee is $6.

April 16: Men’s Breakfast Social

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center will host a Men’s Breakfast Social on Tuesday, April 16, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

There is a suggested donation of $5 to help cover costs. RSVP by April 9 by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 123.

Donovan to speak on trash, recycling and composting

BERNARDSTON — In advance of Earth Day, Amy Donovan, program director at the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District, will lead a talk on trash, recycling and composting at the Bernardston Senior Center on Wednesday, April 17, at 12:15 p.m.

Senior Center to host ‘Ask an Audiologist’ program

NORTHFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center audiologist Julie Fisher will lead an “Ask an Audiologist” program at the Northfield Senior Center on Thursday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.

There will be a question-and-answer period, free hearing screenings and a talk regarding hearing loss, hearing evaluation and treatment, with a focus on developments in hearing health care.

Mount Grace talk welcomes habitat consultant

NORTHFIELD — Join Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust for a program led by MassWildlife habitat consultant JT Larkin at The Brewery at Four Star Farms on Friday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Larkin has been studying migratory birds for years, especially the Eastern whip-poor-will, and will share some of the coolest information he’s found about these creatures. Attendees will see new migratory route data and data outlining popular spots for select species in the area.

Two walks on tap for Happy Feet participants

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s Happy Feet walking program has two walks planned in April.

On Monday, April 22, at 11:30 a.m., participants will meet at the Senior Center and walk along Main Street. Dogs on leashes are welcome.

On Monday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m., participants will leave from the Senior Center, meet the Northfield Elementary School kindergarten class and then return to Town Hall for a performance by Davis Bates at 10 a.m. Anyone is welcome, including parents and siblings. This program is sponsored by the Cultural Council and the Council on Aging.

Dufresne to perform

BERNARDSTON — Dusti Dufresne will perform at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, April 22, at 3 p.m., followed by an Evening Cafe at 4 p.m.

Dinner will consist of lasagna with tomato sauce, chicken meatballs, Brussels sprouts and pears. A $3 donation is requested. Call Clare at 413-648-5319 to reserve dinner by April 18.
