Northfield starts yoga classes

NORTHFIELD – Weekly gentle yoga classes with Libby Volckening will start Thursday, Jan. 4 in the Webster Room of the First Parish of Northfield Unitarian Church. Classes will be held every Thursday from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.

According to a post on the Nextdoor social networking site, the classes are based on the gentle Viniyoga approach. Movements in the course are designed to help participants move, breathe, balance, relax and unwind.

Men and women with any level of flexibility or yoga experience can get involved, the post reads. Yoga mats and props will be provided.

The cost to drop in is $13 per class, $55 for five classes or $100 for 10 classes. Advance registration is requested. Contact Volckening by phone at 413-834-4524 or by email at libby@yogalibre.net to register.

Starting Jan. 11, Volckening will also offer yoga for the lower back and hips, also at the First Parish of Northfield Unitarian, on Thursdays from 6 to 7:15 p.m. According to Volckening’s website, classes will run through March 15. Participants can save $20 by registering before Jan. 4.

Council on Aging to host luncheon

LEYDEN – The Council on Aging is holding a mini-luncheon of clam chowder, sandwiches and salad on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at noon in the Town Hall Community Room, according to the Leyden Life newsletter’s January edition.
