CHARLEMONT — Colrain, Charlemont and Shelburne Falls firefighters gathered at 280 Zoar Road Wednesday morning to extinguish a minor fire that Charlemont Fire Chief Dennis Annear said likely originated with heat tape around the home’s water pipes.
Annear said firefighters responded at approximately 8:40 a.m. to find the mobile home filled with smoke. Other firefighters confirmed they saw small flames rising from underneath the structure.
“We’re not exactly sure, because it’s underneath the trailer, but it looks like possible heat tape for the pipes,” Annear explained. “We think the pipes were freezing and that’s what it looks like — something shorted out under there and set the underneath of the trailer on fire.”
Although nobody was injured in the fire, Annear said the homeowner will be temporarily displaced while electricians inspect the property and assess the damage.
The fire was extinguished by 9:10 a.m.
