Police: Grenade found near donation box was inactive

WRENTHAM — Police say a grenade found near a donation box over the weekend turned out to be inactive.

The Sun Chronicle reports that the grenade caused some concern when it was found Sunday near an American Legion donation box in Wrentham. Police, firefighters and the state police bomb unit responded to the scene and created a perimeter.

Trooper Stephen Sicard Jr. X-rayed the grenade and determined it was inert. Authorities say the device was a Mark 2 grenade husk.

Officials removed the grenade from the scene.

Teen drowns in lake shortly after high school graduation

WEBSTER — A teen has drowned just days after graduating from high school.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s office says 18-year-old Christensen Agnant, of Worcester, died Saturday evening after going underwater at Lake Webster.

Officials say Agnant was attending a graduation party nearby when he and a group of teens decided to go to the lake.

Agnant went into the water around 7:30 p.m., and the teens tried to rescue him. An off-duty police officer also jumped in to help the teen.

Divers found Agnant and brought him to shore, and the teen was later pronounced dead at Harrington Hospital.

Agnant graduated from South High Community School in Worcester Tuesday.

Prosecutors say no foul play is suspected in his death.
