BERNARDSTON — The Windmill Motel was sold at auction earlier this month to a private out-of-state lender.

The motel at 497 Northfield Road, which was opened by Kolman Nemes in 1981, was bought for $750,000 on April 10, according to Marianne Sullivan, president of Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers.

Shelburne attorney Kevin Parsons, who represents the private out-of-state lender, declined to disclose his client’s identity, but said his client intends to sell the property again, to a person or entity that will reopen the business as a 16-room motel.

“He’s going to be selling it to whoever wants to buy it. So he’s presently entertaining offers on the property,” he said.

Parsons said the most recent previous owner purchased the property and renovated it, but never opened it. He said all the motel rooms have been updated.

According to Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers’ website, the property consists of two parcels on roughly 6.6 acres of land. There is a two-bedroom owner suite and potential for an on-site restaurant.

Jill Watrous, Bernardston’s assistant assessor, said the parcel with the building on it has an assessed value of $393,600, while the other parcel is assessed at $6,400.

Anyone who is interested in making an offer on the property should contact Parsons at 413-625-9366.
