GREENFIELD — Greenfield resident Maggie Heinz will present her artwork on barn collages at her first solo gallery showcase tonight in the Artspace.

“I consider my work to be very playful, modern and clean,” she said. “It’s an experimentation of color and composition. It’s designed to be good old fashion hang on the wall enhancer environmental art.”

Heinz has a particular interest in ecology and said the theme of her Artspace showcase stemmed from her interest in past artists who’ve produced images influenced by the horizon or proportion of the sky to the earth. She challenged herself to insert a barn atop a horizon without disturbing the background qualities.

“It’s a very, very refined, uber simple, distillation of incorporating man-made things into ecology and having it cooperate without negative side effects,” she said. “I’m mildly obsessed with barns.”

Heinz has been an artist since she can remember and said although she loves to present her final pieces to friends, family and potential buyers, her favorite aspect of the profession is the time she spends in the studio experimenting with a variety of design compilations.

“There’s an enthusiasm, determination and endless curiosity that overcomes me and I’m not concerned about the clock,” she said. “I’ve never not been an artist.”

The opening reception for “Collage, Color and Composition” is open to the public and will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Artspace gallery at 15 Mill St. All artwork is for sale and the exhibit will close on March 25.

“I would love to sell everything and litter the world with my work,” she said. “Everything is for sale and was priced with consideration to the economy.”

The gallery is open from noon to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Thursday hours from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m., or by appointment.
