BERNARDSTON — Bernardston resident Lou Bordeaux has been hired as the new town coordinator. His first day is September 1.

Bordeaux served on the Selectboard from 2012 to 2015. He left the Selectboard, he said, when he could no longer devote sufficient time to the board due to his professional work operating the pro shop at the skating rink in Greenfield.

But he still had a desire to work for his town.

“You kind of get a sense of ownership about it,” Bordeaux said. “When I found out Hugh (Campbell) had given his notice, I couldn’t get my resume printed soon enough. For a rural-America guy like me, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Hugh Campbell announced his resignation at a Selectboard meeting on July 18. He will be leaving to work full-time with his wife, managing their antique and vintage business.

“He’s the right man for the job,” Campbell said after the Selectboard appointed Bordeaux on Wednesday.

Other town employees were similarly pleased with the decision.

“Surprisingly it didn’t take 16 weeks to do this,” said Town Clerk Paul Luther.
