NORTHFIELD — A Thursday night traffic stop resulted in the discovery of approximately 531 bags of heroin and a large amount of crack cocaine, and the subsequent arrest of the driver.

According to Police Chief Jon Hall, Officer Oleg Cobileanschi arrested 41-year-old Amanda Moore of Hinsdale, New Hampshire, during a traffic stop at around 10 p.m. She faces four charges, including a motor vehicle lights violation, trafficking in cocaine (more than 18 grams and less than 38 grams), trafficking in heroin (36 grams or more) and conspiracy to violate drug law. Moore was held on $15,000 bail.

“Officer Cobileanschi has been doing a great job patrolling,” Hall said. “He probably saved some lives by taking this heroin off the street.”

The passenger in the car, 38-year-old Hinsdale resident Tyler Raymond, was issued a summons. His charges include possession of Class B drug (cocaine) and conspiracy to violate drug law.

Cobileanschi stopped Moore, who was driving a Subaru Legacy on Route 10 heading northbound, because of a defective license plate light. During the routine traffic stop, he spotted drug paraphernalia in plain sight in the back of the vehicle, which led him to search the vehicle. Cobileanschi said he found a large amount of narcotics.

In the past year, Cobileanschi made an arrest relating to the trafficking of several pounds of cannabis, but Hall could not recall any recent arrests involving large amounts of narcotics in Northfield.

“This is not common in Northfield, but there are a lot of drugs that move through our area,” Hall said.

Moore was taken to the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction in Greenfield, Hall said, and was expected to be arraigned in Greenfield District Court. Bernardston Police Officer Jordan Zukowski assisted with the arrest.
