Must See: Hip-hop legend KRS-One to hold lecture, performance

Hip-hop legend KRS-One returns to Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center in Greenfield Friday.

He will present a lecture at 6 p.m. at the Pushkin Gallery, and a musical performance at 8 p.m. at Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center. The performance will also feature local artists Tai Chi, Jarv, DJ Rec, Congo Sanchez and Heatmizer.

KRS-One has been a musician and pioneer of the hip-hop community for more than 20 years, and has more than 20 albums to his credit. He has been called the “conscience of hip-hop” (Rolling Stone), “the greatest live emcee ever” (The Source), the “spokesperson for hip-hop” (Wall Street Journal), “master teacher” (Zulu Nation) and the “son of hip-hop” (Kool DJ Herc).

KRS-One has lectured at more than 500 universities, published three groundbreaking books, established the Temple of Hip Hop for the spiritual exploration of hip-hop’s culture, and has done much more highly influential work in the hip-hop community. At the 2008 BET Awards, KRS-One was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for all his work and effort toward the Stop the Violence Movement, as well as his overall pioneering of hip-hop music and culture.
