Montague Police Logs: Oct. 15 to Oct. 27, 2024

1:19 p.m. — Reporting party from Davis Street states there is some damage, likely caused by vandalism, to the outside of his home. Damage done from a lawn mower being operated by the Montague Housing Authority. Homeowner will work things out with them. Report taken.
3:39 p.m. — Reporting party from Griswold Street reports attempted breaking and entering overnight. Caller advises she found cigarettes and a knife at the back door that did not belong to her and also that she has heard weird noises for the past three nights. Officer advising not as reported. Reporting party told him she has two dogs that would have alerted her if someone was trying to get in, but she did find a knife that she wanted disposed of.
9:35 a.m. — Employee from Cumberland Farms on Montague City Road reports a female stole a pack of cigarettes and also threatened staff. Summons issued.
8:35 a.m. — Employee from Cumberland Farms on Montague City Road requesting a female customer be removed from the store. She is causing a disturbance and shoplifted from the store yesterday. Female had left prior to officer’s arrival. Employees advised of their options.
3:04 p.m. — Caller from Griswold Street states there is another knife on her porch and she’s not comfortable picking it up. Same thing occurred two days ago. It does not appear anyone attempted to break in. Officers advised. Officer picked up the item.
6:42 p.m. — Reporting party from Millers Falls Road reporting she heard a very loud explosion. Does not see smoke or flames. Unsure what direction the noise came from. Officer advising he checked the area, nothing showing. All transformers in tact. Noise could have come from a soccer game at the high school.
1:23 p.m. — Reporting party states a female is attempting to break into her neighbor’s house on Central Street. She called her neighbor and the female is not supposed to be at her house. Officers advising female was parked in the parking lot and was not actively trying to get into the house. She was advised of her options.
3:28 p.m. — Residential burglar alarm activated on Dry Hill Road. Officer advises there is someone staying at the residence who didn’t have the proper passcode.

8:56 a.m. — Caller from the Our Lady of Peace Church rectory on Seventh Street states there is an abandoned purse on the lawn. Contents have been thrown on the ground. Items recovered, undetermined if theft was involved.
11:07 a.m. — Reporting party states she can hear gunshots from the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club on Turners Falls Road and it’s too loud. No police service necessary.
10:39 a.m. — Reporting party from Wendell Road states someone hit some items on his property with a vehicle Saturday or Sunday evening and did damage. There are also plastic car parts left behind. Report taken.
1:09 p.m. — Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) reports an active fight on a bus. The bus has pulled over on Millers Falls Road near Lake Pleasant Road. Verbal argument between three people. One male party left on foot back toward his home. All parties advised of options.
6:17 a.m. — Caller states she heard what sounded like arguing inside the Montague Post Office on Main Street. She lives next to the building and could hear the noise. She reports it appeared people were laying down on the floor, possibly smoking. Office located three juveniles who were near the post office boxes (not inside) who were waiting for the bus. Juveniles moved along.
10:56 a.m. — Caller reports seeing a gold Toyota Corolla hit another vehicle that was parked on Avenue A by the Turners Falls Pizza House. Vehicle left the scene, headed over the Turners Falls-Gill Bridge. Employee from The Spirit Shoppe in Gill called to report a male party driving the same vehicle just tried to buy alcohol but she refused because he seemed impaired. He left and headed back toward Turners Falls. Officer located the vehicle that was struck, vehicle does have minor damage.
11:02 a.m. — Officer conducting a traffic stop on Unity Street. Vehicle was seen striking another car and leaving. Bruce G. Rosewarne, 48, of Miller Falls Road in Turners Falls, was arrested on charges of OUI-liquor over .08% (third offense), a marked lanes violation, leaving the scene of property damage and operating to endanger.
5:17 p.m. — Caller at Unity Park on First Street states he is with his grandson and found a bottle of nitrous oxide. Officer picked up the large container, found to be empty and disposed of it.
5:21 p.m. — Caller on Turners Falls Road reports her mailbox was taken off the post and dropped on her neighbor’s yard. Reports her mail was opened and gone through. Caller is nervous a financial aid check from her school may have been stolen. Officer advised.
1:59 a.m. — Fire Department reports finding broken glass and a broken door, which appears to indicate forced entry, while responding to Eagle Creek Renewable Energy on Canal Street. Officers advised. Premise was searched. Some damaged items noted inside the building. Department of Public Works responding the resecure the door. Boards placed on window.
9:47 p.m. — Reporting party from Main Street states her neighbors just lit a huge bonfire that could easily get out of hand as it’s next to a wooded area. Reporting party later called back in stating the Fire Department came and put out some of the fire but not enough, wants them to go back and put out the rest of it.
9:55 a.m. — Reporting party states she and her husband own an Airbnb on Federal Street and noticed four solar lights were taken from the end of the driveway. Estimated value is roughly $60. Officer advised the caller of her options.
1:19 p.m. — Riding lawn mower reported to be on fire near a building and near the treeline on Old Sunderland Road.
4:54 p.m. — Caller on Taylor Hill Road reports hearing approximately five gunshots in a five-minute period of time. No gunshots heard upon officer’s arrival.
6:22 p.m. — Officer advising that at the end of Old Northfield Road where the pavement turns to dirt there are multiple deep potholes that could cause damage to vehicles. Department of Public Works was advised.
2:38 p.m. — Reporting party on Avenue A states two people who used to live with her stole three items when they left and she wants them back. The items are in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and the local police have agreed to help her. Advised of options.
