Montague Police Logs: Oct. 11 to Oct. 18, 2021

Monday, Oct. 11

3:29 p.m. — Caller from Montague Street reports a loose dog with a medium build, tan and white fur, and possibly missing an eye. Last seen heading toward the golf course.

4:18 p.m. — Caller from Greenfield Road requests to speak with an officer about an 18-year-old harassing her 16-year-old daughter.

Tuesday, Oct. 12

3:07 a.m. — Caller from the area of 152 Avenue A reports he heard yelling for about an hour. When he went to see what was going on, a man said a woman was harassing him, but he was unable to call police. Caller said the woman went down the street near Apex Dental Associates wearing pink and white leggings, and a red hoodie. The man went down Avenue A in the direction of the bridge. Officers located a woman on the street who said she and her boyfriend had been asked if they needed help, but denied any need for services. Another caller reports a woman with the same description had been yelling about burning her car for the past few hours while circling the block.

4:34 p.m. — Caller near the intersection of Highland Street and South Prospect Street, transferred from Shelburne Control, reports a truck rollover with no injuries or fluids. Trailer was on its side with a large forklift on it. Truck was upright. Fire Department and Rose Ledge Co. responded. DPW also responded due to road damage.

7:40 p.m. — Walk-in requests to speak to Sgt. James Deery, who was off-duty. The individual then talked about the drug problem in Turners Falls and the Police Department. The individual claimed to have smashed the windows at 15 Fifth St. and would like to do it again, but didn’t want to get arrested.

Wednesday, Oct. 13

8:46 a.m. — Food City manager requests an officer to locate two parties on foot who left the store after shoplifting. The involved man was advised of a no trespass order for both him and the involved woman.

7:02 p.m. — Caller from Randall Road reports a fist fight in front of a neighboring property. A man and woman who were involved got into a black Dodge Hellcat. Police spoke to the involved parties, who said it was a scuffle between family members, but didn’t want to file a report.

Thursday, Oct. 14

12:57 p.m. — An anonymous walk-in from Alice Street reports a vehicle parked outside his neighbor’s house and a man looking in her windows. Didn’t recognize the person or vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and found the man was the homeowner. The renting tenant was home.

8:56 p.m. — Caller from Montague Street reports a vehicle had been speeding up and down Montague Street and onto L Street. It lost control, slid onto her lawn and tore it up. Most damage was on the tree belt, which is town property. Police left a message for DPW to check it out Monday.

Friday, Oct. 15

2:27 p.m. — Caller from Carlisle Avenue reports a black bear was on their front porch, then headed toward Millers Falls Road. Two more calls about bear sightings came in. One was at Crocker Street and Avenue C and the other was from Oakman Street and Griswold Street. Police located the bear on Crocker Street before it ran into the woods off of High Street. Environmental Police were notified.

3:59 p.m. — Multiple calls from Park Street and Unity Street report a motorcycle and truck accident. One caller said the involved parties were arguing. Dispatch contacted Shelburne Control for EMS. Motorcyclist was awake and alert, possible right shoulder injury. Rau’s Sunoco Service towed the motorcycle and American Medical Response (AMR) provided transportation to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Saturday, Oct. 16

8:40 a.m. — Caller from Millers Falls Road reports someone smashed through the airport fence. Police recovered a vehicle plate on scene. Greenfield Police checked the attached residence and no person or vehicle was home. Associated cellphone number no longer in service.

12:59 p.m. — Caller from Avenue A reports an accident in front of Carnegie Library with no injuries or fluids. Police were delayed due to call volume.

Sunday, Oct. 17

2:34 p.m. — Caller reports a vehicle struck a utility pole on Montague City Road and wires were down. A second caller said her husband witnessed the incident. DPW put up barricades on Montague City Road at the intersections with Walnut Street and Turnpike Road. Eversource replaced the utility pole and Rau’s Sunoco Service towed the vehicle.

7:05 p.m. — Caller requests to speak with an officer regarding a man assaulting women, including her, at a wedding at the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club. Caller came to the station to write a voluntary statement.
