Montague Police Logs: Nov. 6 to Nov. 19, 2023

Monday, Nov. 6

9:11 a.m. — Police response to multiple calls about a disturbance in the area outside Greenfield Savings Bank and behind Food City. Two parties were reportedly yelling at each other, with one individual having taken the other’s phone. One individual took off behind Food City. Unable to locate.

Wednesday, Nov. 8

1:01 a.m. — Multiple burglar alarms activated at A.H. Rist Insurance on Avenue A. Police responded to the first alarm and entered the building through an open door. Key holder was notified. Then two additional alarms were reported by the alarm company. Police returned to check and secure the building, and also reviewed security footage.

12:45 p.m. — Manager of Moltenbrey Apartments on Avenue A stated someone had broken into an apartment that management had changed the locks on. Video footage available for police to review.

2:36 p.m. — Caller from the Winslow-Wentworth House on J Street reports a female is banging on their door trying to get in. May have a knife, unconfirmed. Officers confirmed no weapons were shown. Female party was provided courtesy transport to Greenfield.

4:34 p.m. — Animal control officer was called after a report on Laurel Lane involving a large chicken that had been lingering in the reporting party’s yard for a few days, was roosting in their garage and did not belong to any of the neighbors.

Thursday, Nov. 9

10:28 a.m. — Candace Lee Maguire, 25, of Congress Street in Greenfield, was arrested on J Street on a warrant.

10:39 a.m. — Caller from G Street reports their name was used in multiple fraud attempts.

4:57 p.m. — Vandalism reported on Federal Street. Reporting party stated it had to be done deliberately because two finishing nails were put into the corner of the tire, which would not have happened just from driving.

9:04 p.m. — The Watershed restaurant on Old Greenfield Road reports larceny of petty cash. Reporting party believed the larceny may have occurred the day before and will check video footage. Police advised the reporting party to bring in the footage.

Friday, Nov. 10

9:21 a.m. — Dalton John Stevens, 32, of School Street in Greenfield, was arrested on two warrants following a traffic stop at J and Seventh streets.

11:42 a.m. — Alarm company for Watershed restaurant on Old Greenfield Road reports a hallway alarm sounding. Investigated.

12:26 p.m. — Caller in the area of Unity Park on First Street reports a man dressed in camouflage threw mud on the back of his camper and walked off. Police made contact with all parties and advised them of their options.

Saturday, Nov. 11

8:45 a.m. — Joshua Peter Sonntag, 43, of Unity Street in Turners Falls, was arrested on Unity Street on multiple warrants.

9:31 a.m. — Caller from X Street reports hearing 20 to 25 gunshots about two minutes ago. Police investigated, negative findings.

5:09 p.m. — Caller reports a small brush fire under the power lines at North Taylor Hill Road and Meadow Road. Eversource was notified and arrived on scene with the Montague Center Fire Department.

9:05 p.m. — Caller states his girlfriend just hit him with her truck and then sped off. Police checked a residence and Union Street for the involved female’s vehicle; unable to locate.

Monday, Nov. 13

12:39 p.m. — Station walk-in reports their mother went to Food City on Avenue A several hours earlier and hadn’t returned home. Officer located her in the downtown area. Son will drive her car home. Red light violation also noted.

Tuesday, Nov. 14

10:24 a.m. — Station walk-in informs police they have video footage of vandalism inside their Third Street business. Officer will review footage and follow up.

6:33 p.m. — Caller from Woodland Drive reports a teenage male had come to their door, showed a picture of a girl and asked them if they had seen her. Reporting party stated they hadn’t seen her and the male party left. Officer checked the area, unable to locate.

7:19 p.m. — Rebecca Marie Seeley, 33, of Union Street in Montague, was arrested on a warrant following a traffic stop at Main and Station streets.

10:02 p.m. — Police assistance requested with an unwanted person at the Nouria gas station on Third Street.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

10:22 p.m. — Caller from Montague Avenue reports they were driving home and their neighbor started yelling at them. That same neighbor got into their own vehicle, followed the caller home, and proceeded to yell at them some more and threaten them.

Thursday, Nov. 16

2:13 a.m. — Caller from Third Street reports hearing two kids scream and then a loud boom. The front and back doors are open of what they believe is a vacant residence. Police investigated and confirmed the front door was ajar. Police checked the building and found no one inside. Police secured the doors as best as possible.

11:26 a.m. — Station walk-in reports one of their company trucks (Senn Excavating of Millers Falls) was vandalized overnight on Federal Street.

1:22 p.m. — Caller from Third Street expresses concern about two individuals who were going door-to-door looking for people who could speak Spanish. Parties were looking for someone named Carlos. Police advised the individuals of the complaint and they were moved along.

2:45 p.m. — Caller on K Street reports someone was attacked by a dog and was bitten. Her own dog was also bitten. Police and ambulance responding. Turners Falls Fire Department secured a signed patient refusal for transport. Victim brought their dog to the vet and it was euthanized.

5:01 p.m. — Scam/fraud reported at New England Wound Care on Burnham Street. Received an email that the company needed to pay a bill. Reporting party did so through QuickBooks before realizing it was a scam.

9:18 p.m. — Caller on Third Street reports their neighbor is accusing the reporting party of touching their door and thermostat (they share a porch at the residence). On record at this time.

Friday, Nov. 17

2:31 p.m. — Possible safety hazard reported on Maple Street. Reporting party expresses concerns about a neighboring property where they allege asbestos is being thrown into the backyard and dust is going everywhere. Board of Health and building inspector notified.

Sunday, Nov. 19

1:27 a.m. — Station walk-in reports a deceased deer they encountered in the middle of the road while driving into town from Montague Center. Concerned it is a traffic hazard. Deer located and pulled off the roadway. Department of Public Works to pick it up.

11:17 a.m. — Turners Falls Pizza House on Avenue A reports a disturbance. Unsatisfied customer came in to complain, started yelling and then went outside and kicked an employee’s car. Caller has the incident on video footage and brought the footage to the department. Suspect was located and charged with malicious destruction of property under $1,200. Pizza House owner to consider a no trespassing order.
