Montague Police Logs: July 1 to July 7, 2024

9:32 a.m. — Reporting party requesting police assistance with a female tenant at Keith Apartments on Canal Street who is refusing to let the property management company mow the lawn. Situation mediated, peace restored.
12:31 p.m. — Officer checking on a complaint that hedges on someone’s front lawn on Main Street are impeding visibility for drivers. Hedges were found to be well-groomed and did not impede the officer’s visibility.
6:49 a.m — Caller from the Nouria gas station on Third Street states that two nights ago a female in the store left with a bag of items without paying. Reporting party states it was not called in earlier as the worker was unaware. Officer spoke to the female, advised her of her options.
11:14 p.m. — Caller reporting that a group of kids are lighting off fireworks on Central Street. Second call reports the same. Officer spoke to the parties and advised them of the complaint.
4:59 p.m. — Shoplifting reported at Aubuchon Hardware on Avenue A. Report taken.
5:43 p.m. — Chief requests an on-duty sergeant respond to a nearby stream to check on a farm truck that appears to be dumping something into the water on Will’s Ferry Road. Vehicle operator has permission from land owner to use the waterway. Operator was advised to put up safety cones if they are blocking the road.
6:21 p.m. — A traffic stop by the Shady Glen Diner on Avenue A resulted in the arrest of Mack Kenney Daniels, 32, of Springfield, on charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug law; Tevin Devon Daniels, 29, of Westfield, on charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug law, following too close and obstructed/nontransparent window; and Charles Thomas Jr., 58, of Fifth Street in Turners Falls, on charges of distributing a Class B drug (subsequent offense) and conspiracy to violate drug law.
3:07 p.m. — Reporting party reporting a verbal altercation that occurred between himself and a group of people on Migratory Way. He does not know where the group is now, believes they were in a white Honda Civic, unknown plate. Reporting party declined to speak with an officer at this time, advised that if he sees them again and there are any issues, he will call back. Services rendered.

10:06 p.m. — Report of a group setting off fireworks from the second-floor porch on Second Street. Area searched, nothing found.
10:28 a.m. — Reporting party states his girlfriend tried breaking into his apartment on Central Street. A struggle took place and he cut her with something and she is bleeding. Jacob Blanchard, 34, of Central Street in Turners Falls, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery domestic/intimate partner.
3:22 p.m. — Report of two dogs in a vehicle at Aubuchon Hardware on Avenue A with the windows up. Upon arrival, officer advised the windows are down, dogs appear content, will stand by to advise the owner of the complaint when they return. Officer spoke with the owner who was not happy about the complaint.
8:34 p.m. — Report of fireworks being set off over residents’ vehicles, houses and trees on Randall Road. Resident was advised to cease setting off any more fireworks. Resident stated he already set off all the fireworks he had with his granddaughter.
7:23 a.m. — Caller on Montague City Road states she woke up to find strange writing inside her apartment on the walls. Advised her to call back if any more suspicious activity occurs.
10:58 a.m. — Reporting party states a red Dodge pickup with no plates cut him off and then almost hit him and another vehicle on Hatchery Road. Caller believes the truck is from a local farm.
10:44 a.m. — Employee at Food City on Avenue A reports having witnessed three men get out of a gray Nissan Sentra and start kicking and punching a male party who was sitting under a tree on the side of the parking lot. Officer requesting EMS for patient evaluation. Male refused medical treatment or to pursue charges.
3:18 p.m. — Walk-in to the station from H Street reports his car was stolen. Party filled out stolen vehicle information form. Information was entered into the National Crime Information Center.
4:16 p.m. — Employee at Family Dollar on Avenue A reports there is a woman who has been shoplifting from all the stores in the plaza. Needs an officer to help identify the woman so Family Dollar can have her charged. Claims she has stolen at least $300 in items. Officer advised.
5:04 p.m. — Walk-in to the station reports his wallet was stolen from Sunderland Road while he was at his nephew’s birthday party. He left it in a basket on the counter. There have been fraud charges on the card since. He has been in contact with his bank. Report taken.
