Montague Police Logs: Jan. 9 to Jan. 22, 2023

Monday, Jan. 9

12:18 p.m. — Caller from L Street believes she was shot by a BB gun the prior night. She said she felt something hit her legs and then found BBs on the porch and nearby at a telephone pole the following morning. Caller believes the BBs were being shot from the back first-floor window of a neighboring building. Apartment occupants were advised of the consequences of discharging a BB gun, but a subject denied doing so.

8:32 p.m. — Caller from Turners Falls reports she is currently in Texas and her son sent videos, texts and calls that showed her ex-husband damaging the car her son was borrowing. She said the videos included threats of breaking windows, destroying property, damaging the glove box and causing other unknown damage.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

4:33 a.m. — Caller from Fourth Street reports an unwanted male at the location. Caller indicated the individual was being loud, causing a disturbance and bothering neighbors. Male was said to be in the living room during the call. While police attempted to gather more information, the female disconnected and wouldn’t pick up upon callback. Police later made contact with the caller, who advised the situation was all verbal. She said she would reach out to the landlord later in the day to have a no-trespass order filed.

9:29 p.m. — Greenfield Police Department reported locating a missing female party.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

12:23 p.m. — Greenfield Police Department requests that Montague Police Department block traffic from crossing the bridge on Canal Road and going up Turners Falls Road due to an accident.

3:15 p.m. — Caller from Cumberland Farms on Montague City Road states a party would not leave the store and was yelling at customers. Gone on arrival.

Thursday, Jan. 12

10:33 a.m. — Walk-in from Turners Falls reports his 22-year-old daughter is missing and said the last contact anyone had with her was on the night of Jan. 10. Walk-in said the daughter’s boyfriend said she contacted him at around 11:30 p.m. and said she would be home in around 45 minutes, but she didn’t show up. After being entered into the National Crime Information Center, the daughter was found and removed from the database.

Friday, Jan. 13

1:25 p.m. — Police arrested Troy Purcell, 51, of Federal Street in Greenfield, on two active warrants. Purcell was reported by a 911 caller after a sighting on the bike path heading toward G Street in Turners Falls.

1:10 p.m. — Upon a request from the Greenfield Police Department, the Montague Police checked an address on Grand Avenue for a male who took car keys from his ex-wife. Police learned the man was in New Hampshire and advised him to call the Greenfield Police Department.

4:52 p.m. — Caller from Old Greenfield Road states he rents from his mother, who has been coming to his side of the property and making it seem like he is not bettering his life. They have chickens on the property and the mother broke the coop. Caller added he gets chased around the house and was almost injured by a knife she was holding. He did not request a protection or restraining order, but wanted the interactions on record.

Sunday, Jan. 15

4:03 p.m. — Caller reports seeing heavy smoke across the Connecticut River at Riverside Cemetery in Gill. Call was transferred to Shelburne Control.

7:35 p.m. — Caller from J Street reports seeing a suspicious masked person holding something in their hand while walking through the building. Police observed no signs of forced entry and all doors locked. Caller and an attached party then went to the building to observe what was taken before requesting an officer come review the footage.

Monday, Jan. 16

12:43 a.m. — Caller from Fourth Street requests an officer due to a 20-minute ongoing verbal dispute with her boyfriend. Caller, who called from her neighbor’s house, said nothing physical occurred, but he wouldn’t give her phone back. Police met the caller outside, where she told an officer that her boyfriend returned her phone to her.

1:22 p.m. — Walk-in reports identity theft on Facebook.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

12:41 p.m. — Sergeant from the Food and Drug Administration requests to speak to a detective.

8:00 p.m. — Rau’s Sunoco Service towed a vehicle on Henry Avenue. Driver was charged with having an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, as well as operating a vehicle with a suspended registration (subsequent offense).

Wednesday, Jan. 18

10:38 a.m. — Caller from Fourth Street reports someone trying to kick in the door of their neighbor’s apartment. Female party was actually trying to get into her mother’s apartment and her mom couldn’t hear her.

11:04 a.m. — Caller from Millers Falls Road reports a large brush fire across the street and a male party with large gas cans.

Thursday, Jan. 19

2:37 p.m. — Caller from Turners Falls Road requests help catching a small dog that is running loose around the neighborhood. Dog was caught and brought inside.

4:33 p.m. — Caller from the Patch neighborhood reports a male party vandalized her car while her son was out with it that day. Son brought the vehicle for police to inspect.

Friday, Jan. 20

4:41 p.m. — Caller from the laundromat on Third Street reports his girlfriend left with his money when he went to the store to get things for dinner. He said that last week, she stole his car, but today she left on foot.

9:30 p.m. — Caller from The Spirit Shoppe in Gill reports parties fighting and threatening a female in the parking lot.

Saturday, Jan. 21

12:51 a.m. — Multiple callers from Millers Falls Road reporting a vehicle drove into hedges. Driver appeared uninjured and was able to get out of the vehicle, which lost a wheel and had its airbags deploy. Police observed no signs of impairment in the driver, who was hospitalized. Koch’s Automotive towed the vehicle. Utility pole stayed intact, but police requested Eversource to inspect it.

1:13 p.m. — Caller from Cumberland Farms on Montague City Road reports a male party who was asked not to come into the store came into the store. An employee then said he left without incident when asked.

Sunday, Jan. 22

11:49 a.m. — Police assisted with a vehicle lockout at the First Baptist Church of Turners Falls.

10:34 p.m. — Caller from Federal Street reports her neighbor, who may be under the influence, is banging on her door, asking her to watch his dog and handing her an envelope with $500 in it. Caller observed an ankle injury and offered to take him to the hospital. He declined and sped off in his truck. Police called the male party. Police took the money and advised the male, who was at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, that they have it.
