TURNERS FALLS — Charley’s Tropical Bar and Chess Club, a pop-up bar and “immersive experience” hosted by the Shea Theater Arts Center and Eggtooth Productions, will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Avenue A theater.
The event features beer, wine and tropical mocktails; music; cozy meetings over chess games; and “an unexpected journey into the mind” of Charley, “the friendly but quiet founder,” according to Eggtooth Productions.
“It’s in a time before cellphones, so enjoy the escape from those objects, too, for the night,” an event announcement reads.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door and can be purchased at sheatheater.org.
TURNERS FALLS — The Turners Falls Athletic Club has donated $1,000 to the Turners Falls High School band, club President Chris Couture announced last week. Funding will be put toward buying more instruments for the growing band program.
TURNERS FALLS — The state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will lead “an easy-paced, 1- to 2-mile guided walk” along the Canalside Rail Trail or through downtown Turners Falls each Friday in February from 1 to 2 p.m.
Geared toward seniors but open to all ages, each walk will begin at the main entrance to the Great Falls Discovery Center, located at 2 Avenue A. A DCR park interpreter will highlight local history along the way, as well as topics from the “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” exhibit. Attendees are asked to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy boots, bring water and be prepared for the weather.
MONTAGUE CENTER — The First Congregational Church of Montague is holding a Valentine’s Day Cookie Walk on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
