MONTAGUE — No one was hurt in an apparent head-on collision on Greenfield Cross Road Wednesday.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. at a particularly dark and narrow section of the road. Forty-five minutes later, a Dodge van rested on its side parallel to a Ford truck, positioned the opposite way, its driver side wheel badly damaged.

According to Montague Center Assistant Fire Chief Richard Sawin, helping to manage the scene, both drivers declined ambulance transportation to the hospital. Sawin said he couldn’t say exactly how the crash happened, citing an ongoing investigation by the Montague Police Department.

Police closed Greenfield Cross Road until the two vehicles could be cleared to allow emergency crews a chance to work safely.
