SHELBURNE FALLS — Civil engineering firm GCG Associates, in partnership with the town of Shelburne, will field community input, questions and concerns on Monday regarding the second phase of construction on Bridge Street planned for fall 2022.

The meeting and walking tour will begin at 10 a.m. next to the Asma’s Kitchen food truck on Bridge Street. Business owners, property owners and residents are invited to attend. The lead project engineer, Mike Carter, will explain and discuss Phase 2 design plans with those present.

Phase 2 plans include continued improvements on Bridge Street, from Baker Avenue to the Mechanic Street intersection, according to Carter. Replacing trees, curbs and street pavement, installing a new water main and repairing the sewer are among the action items within the plan at this time.

While the first phase of work, which began in late May, has created problems for some businesses, Carter said his company aims to keep an open line of communication.

“We try to accommodate them. It’s part of our job, trying to make sure they’re satisfied with what we do,” he said.

Once the meeting occurs, the town will take all aspects of discussion into consideration and apply for a second Community Development Block Grant to fund the latter end of the project. A consultant will also be present on Monday to speak and answer questions about the grant.

If awarded, Phase 2 water and sewer construction would begin after Labor Day 2022, followed by sidewalk replacement and other roadwork in spring 2023, according to a meeting notice.

Following this meeting will be a public hearing on Monday, Aug 16, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. To join, visit or dial 1-929-436-2866 and enter Meeting ID: 359 058 3442. The community is encouraged to attend to discuss the planned construction.
