GREENFIELD — MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center held a grand opening ceremony at the Greenfield Corporate Center on Friday, nearly four months after moving from Arch Place and acquiring 3,000 square feet of additional space.

The quasi-governmental agency connecting workers with employers opened to customers at 101 Munson St., Suite 210, on June 1. Guests were given tours of the new digs on Friday following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“My colleagues and I help our customers with every step of the job search process, including assessing marketable skills, teaching job search skills and connecting customers to training opportunities, so that they become attractive to employers and can strengthen our economy,” MassHire Workshop Coordinator Andrea Reynolds said.

She explained she found herself unemployed 10 years ago and visited the Career Center, where she said the staff could not have been more supportive. Reynolds fine-tuned her résumé and sharpened her interview skills, and nine years ago, she applied for the position she now holds.

“With my experience as a customer, I have some understanding of what our customers are going through, and bring that sense every day,” Reynolds said.

She mentioned MassHire works with other community-based organizations such as Greenfield Community College, Community Action Pioneer Valley and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department to connect with clients who need their services.

Reynolds then introduced Andrea Doehne, who reminisced about her experience with MassHire when she was out of work and wanted to find a job that matched her skill set.

“I want to have joy in my job,” she said. “And the Career Center has been very helpful to me. The first time I worked with them was … 2018, and at that time I came out of a very long time of taking care of a family member,” the German national said. “And I was feeling really insecure about what I can do and where I should start, especially as a foreigner — my education, my job skills are from a different country.”

Doehne said losing a job can be a traumatic experience and the Career Center can help people through that situation.

Rafael Santos Jr., the job placement counselor for the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department, spoke about his agency’s partnership with MassHire before handing the floor over to Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner and Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra. The ceremonial blue ribbon was cut alongside state Sen. Jo Comerford and state Rep. Natalie Blais.

The new Career Center features 13,000 square feet of modern space with state-of-the-art resources to provide in-person, virtual and hybrid services. MassHire serves 50 towns, covering all of Franklin and Hampshire counties and the North Quabbin region. It has additional locations at the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce at 80 Freedom St. in Athol and at Forbes Library in Northampton.
