GREENFIELD — A man in his mid-20s was transported to the hospital by helicopter after he crashed his red Honda sports-style motorcycle into a gray Honda CRV on Federal Street at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The SUV driver, Fire Chief Robert Strahan confirmed, was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by ambulance.

Greenfield Police cruisers blocked off a portion of Federal Street near its intersection with Linden Avenue as American Medical Response EMTs, Greenfield firefighters and Colrain Ambulance first responders provided roadside medical aid to the victim, who was heard yelling in pain.

Bill Childs, who witnessed the crash, said he pulled his car to the middle of the road to block out traffic. He said the woman driving the Honda CRV had slowed down to take a right turn, when the motorcycle crashed into the vehicle’s rear.

“I feel sorry for him,” Childs said of the motorcycle rider. “He didn’t realize she was slowing down and pulling in there.”

Greenfield Police Sgt. Chris Rowell categorized the motorcyclist’s injuries as “serious” and explained that the crash remains under investigation.
