GILL — A man was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Friday evening after his motorcycle collided with a car near 39 French King Highway.

Gill Police and Fire departments, assisted by the Montague and Erving Police departments, shut down a portion of the road at approximately 5:32 p.m. as the motorcyclist, believed to be in his early-to-mid 20s, received temporary treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fire Chief Gene Beaubien.

Crews were directing traffic and circling the debris left behind from the victim’s blue sports-style motorcycle.

The man was taken by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, where a LifeFlight helicopter landed to transport him to the Springfield hospital, according to Beaubien.

Gill Police Officer Mitchell Waldron said the crash remains under investigation.
