Deli complaints

There is an old Native American saying: Please do not criticize me until you have walked a mile in my moccasins. In other words don’t criticize how I am doing my job until you have done it yourself.

Last week, we had a customer complaining about there only being two people on the line to wait on customers and that they were both slow.

Now, I have worked at my job for many years and one of the things I have learned is that slicing deli meats and cheeses is not something you do really fast. After all, you are operating a machine with an extremely sharp blade and could easily get cut. Slicing at a fast pace wears out the muscles in your shoulder and right arm and eventually you have pain as you slice. That is why we aren’t keeping up to a speed to your liking.

I have a suggestion, if the people in the deli you are at are not working up to your needs, perhaps you could grab some from the grab and go shelf. It is always fresh. Or if you want more variety, you can check out the meat department, the cheese department or the dairy department. They also have cheese and deli meats.

If you are going to the deli, I have some suggestions. Do not expect speed, and remember, you can not ask for beef, ham, chicken or turkey. You have to be specific. All our grocery stores offer varieties. Also, you might want to check out the store ad at the front of the store. Knowing what is on sale will be helpful. Knowing all of this will make your time in the deli go much faster.

Thanks and happy to help you from your local deli clerk.
