Local roundup: Valley Storm 14U goes 2-2 over the weekend

It was a solid weekend for the 14U Valley Storm softball team, as the club went 2-2 at the Halloween Spooktacular Tournament at Fast Pitch Nation in Windsor, Conn.

On Elimination Sunday, the Storm fell to fourth-seeded Southington CT Lightning, 6-4. Bri Lynch went the distance and struck out two batters, while Margarette Howland had two hits and an RBI, Maggie Potter had two hits, Hannah Gilbert and Anna Bucala each had a hit, and Skyler Steele and Amelia Pierce each added an RBI.

The Storm went 2-1 on Saturday to earn the No. 5 seed in the elimination bracket.

In Game 1, they lost 5-1 to the CT Wildcats. Lynch went the distance and struck out three batters. Kylee Gamache, Bucala, and Gilbert all doubled, Lynch had a hit and an RBI, and Mya Schattin, Pierce, and Potter each had a hit.

In Game 2, the club defeated the Simsbury CT Honey Badgers, 19-3. Cassie Dunham got the start and the win, striking out four batters. Athe plate, Gilbert had three hits (two doubles), Delaney Fifield had two hits (double) and two RBIs, Howland had two hits (double) and an RBI, Gamache had two hits and three RBIs, Lynch and Dunham each had a double and an RBI, Steele and Pierce each had a hit and an RBI, Potter had a hit, and Schattin had an RBI.

In Game 3, they defeated the Western MA Heat, 16-4. Lynch struck out six batters in three innings for the win. Howland roped two hits (double) and two RBIs, Lynch had two hits (double) and an RBI, Pierce had two hits and two RBI, Bucala has two hits and an RBI, Gilbert had two hits, Steele had a hit and two RBI, Fifield had a hit and an RBI, and Potter had an RBI.


CCG Two-Person Scramble

The pairing of Jason Kelton and Tom Herzig shot 123, capturing the low gross score in the men’s division at the Country Club of Greenfield’s Two-Person Scramble on Sunday.   

Nate Burdick and Scott Cote were the runners-up with a score of 125, followed in third place by Dave Kennedy and Jake Willis (131). Low net winners were Michael Duclos and Michael Duclos Jr. (121), with Dave Blanchette and Patrick Varner second (127) and the team of Dylan and Mike Archer in third place (128).

Elaine Goodhind and Tina Browne were the women’s division winners with a 152, and the duo of Donna Woodcock and Sue O’Connor posted the low net score (132).

CFC Three Club Championship

Keith Burch continued his stellar season on the links, capturing the low gross with a 79 to win the Crumpin-Fox Club’s Three Club Championship on Saturday in Bernardston.

Jason Wallace finished second after a round of 84, followed by Erik Barnes in third place with an 87. Seth Rosenbloom nabbed fourth (89).

Michael O’Connell snagged the low net score with a 78, ahead of runner-up Andrew Philie (82). Brendan Creagh was third (85) and Mark Kimball was fourth (86).

Timmons League

Rodney Ebbighausen earned match medalist honors, and he teamed with Jesse Putnam to capture the low gross after shooting 37 at Wednesday’s Timmons League at Northfield Golf Club.

The team of Norm LaCoy and Mark Horta finished second with a 38. After a match of cards, Bob Perlman and Ed Reagey were the low net winners (30), ahead of Harry Hyams and Pete Blake.

Hyams was closest to the pin on No. 6 (21 feet, 4 inches) and Pete Blake was closest at No. 7 (3-11).
