Local roundup: Greenfield Grey’s Dylen Shinall does it all in win over Westfield

Dylen Shinall smacked three hits and tossed three innings on the mound to earn the win in relief as Greenfield Grey picked up a 6-5 victory over Westfield Orange in a Babe Ruth League Fall Ball contest on Sunday in Westfield.

Shinall secured the victory in the final inning, when he picked off a Westfield runner at third base, with Nico Fasulo putting down the tag to clinch the win.

Fasulo, Ben Desmond, Cooper Whitney and AJ Desmond each added a hit for Greenfield.

On Saturday, Greenfield dropped a 15-5 decision to Westfield Blue as Shinall was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the way.

Fasulo, Gabe Solodky, Ben Dodge, Whitney and Alex Blunck tossed in hits for Greenfield, while AJ Desmond struck out one in his pitching debut.

PVYBL Fall Ball

David Carey was 3-for-3 with two triples, and Ryan Pulizari and TJ Thibeault combined for seven strikeouts on the mound to send Greenfield past Pioneer Valley Sand & Gravel, 12-2, in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Fall Ball contest on Sunday at Beacon Field in Greenfield.

Greenfield’s Alex Gochinski had an RBI and a run, while Nick Crocker, Thibeault and Braeden Tsipenyuk all added hits.

Pioneer's Jason Quinn struck out two in three innings on the bump. Cayden Lehtomaki and Nate Sciandra doubled.

On Saturday, Greenfield swept a doubleheader over Pioneer at Herlihy Park, capturing victories via 8-2 and 10-5 scores.

In Game 1, Thibeault and Carey combined to strike out 10 batters on the mound, while the offense was paced by Carey and Jake Sak, who had two hits apiece, and Hugh Cyhowski, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Tsipenyuk tripled, while Brody Baird doubled and scored twice.

Pioneer’s Cayden Lehtomaki and Nate Sciandra combined to strike out 12 batters on the mound.

In Game 2, Cyhowski recorded eight strikeouts in five innings to earn the win. He was also 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Carey tripled, Michael Pierce singled and scored, and Crocker doubled and drove in a run.

Pioneer’s Jalen McGraw and Ethan Quinn paced their team with two hits each, while Cayden Lehtomaki doubled and Mason Lehtomaki had a single.


Hole-in-one for Welsh

Bob Welsh kept the local hole-in-one barrage rolling over the weekend, recording an ace at the Country Club of Greenfield.

Welsh used a gap wedge from 92 yards out on the 15th hole to accomplish the feat, which was witnessed by Brian, Nate, Ashley and Sue Luippold.

Bucky O’Brien Scotch    

The duo of Chris Ferriter and Ed Garbacik teamed for a 68, garnering low gross honors at the annual Bucky O’Brien Scotch at the Country Club of Greenfield on Sunday.

Scott and Ryan Cote shot 71 to finish in a tie for second with Jason Kelton and Mike Johnson, while four teams tied for fourth place at 72 (Jake Willis/Dave Kennedy, Jamie Crocker/Pat McGuire, Nate Burdick/Brodie Conant and Bob Hamilton/Carter Fasick).

Anthony Wonsecki and Mike Covey notched the low net with a 66, followed by four teams at 71 (Roy Emerson/John Dempsey, Brian Luippold/Mark Kennedy, Michael Ruggeri/Jim Elwell and Brad Worthley/Aaron Dowd).

CCG 200 Club scramble

The team  of Tom Herzig, John Missale, Sue Plante, Donna Woodcock and Terry Blanchard shot 55 to best the field by one stroke en ro ute to the low  gross title at the Country Club of Greenfield’s 200 Club scramble over the weekend.

The low net score of 51 was recorded by the team of Dave McDona ld, Irene McDonald, Maureen Barclay, Marty Carter, Rich Krawiec and Stan Sadowski.
