A popup art salon and marketplace will take place at the LAVA Center on Main Street starting this weekend in downtown Greenfield.

The salon series will take place on Saturdays in September and October: Sept. 12, 29 and 26; Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A press statement describes the shows as an “eclectic offering of local art and shopping. The Saturday Salon Series is a popup art salon and marketplace that will feature our regular gallery display, popup art and video installations, curated pre-recorded music, local vendors and more.”

On the first Saturday, Sept. 12, Em Langevin, of Picture PLURfict, will host a photo booth. Participants can choose from props and backdrops for a photo event that’s great for kids. (Note: To keep things safe, there will not be a literal closed-in photo booth.)  Local music label Peace & Rhythm will provide curated, pre-recorded music that will be played during the event, the statement says.

To get updates on each Saturday’s offerings, check out the Facebook event: facebook.com/events/228887521882618.

This event series is free to attend (donations are welcome and will help to support the artists and the space).

Pandemic guidelines: Please sanitize or wash hands immediately upon entering the space. Wear masks at all times while inside the space (unless eating while seated) or right outside the building. Practice physical distancing. Capacity is limited.

Seeking artists and vendors

The LAVA Center is seeking artists and vendors to display their work during the Saturday Salon Series in September and October. Visual artists: The gallery’s walls are already taken; the gallery is seeking an installation or video work that can be displayed. Writers: Display writings for sale, maybe perform an impromptu reading when there's a small audience. Musicians: The gallery is seeking pre-recorded music only, not live music (at this point in the pandemic). Vendors: Depending on wares, vendors can use one of the gallery’s tables (card table or 6-foot table) or bring one in (6 feet or less). The gallery also has screens and clothes racks to display things on and is open to other ideas.

For those interested, please email vanessa@localaccess.org with details about the work and please include pictures if possible.

The LAVA Center is an arts incubator, black box theater, and community space in Greenfield, MA. It is located on the first floor of 324 Main St., in the heart of Greenfield’s Crossroads Cultural District. It is run by Local Access to Valley Arts, a not-for-profit corporation.
